In this demo, we'll show you how to make contributions by uploading a file.
Files need to be in the comma separated values (CSV) format
and no bigger than 2 megabytes.
You can use our downloadable CSV templates to make sure you
get your information into the right layout.
You can find them on our guides and resources page
in the employer section of our website.
The Employer payroll guide on our website
gives more details about how to do this.
To get started, log in to your online account and select
Manage your contribution schedules from the
Welcome to your NEST home page.
In Manage your contribution schedule,
go to Your unpaid contribution schedules and look at the table
to find the contribution schedule you want to send to us.
You make contributions by completing
and paying contribution schedules.
Click the link under the Edit/Pay column
of the contribution schedule you want to send.
Then, click Upload a file.
Alongside Choose the file to upload, click Browse.
Find the file containing your contribution information and click Open.
When you've found your file, click Upload file.
Once you've uploaded the file, click Process the file.
When you send us your file, we'll check that we recognise the data.
As long as the contributions match the levels
you've set for this member, we'll validate your schedule.
You'll get a message confirming the schedule has been successfully
processed or to let you know there are problems you need to fix.
You can fix errors one-by-one online.
Just open the contribution schedule onscreen
and correct the individual member records.
If you want to fix errors or invalid records using a file,
you need to go to Manage your contribution schedules and
click File upload history.
You can see which records have errors by clicking View errors.
To see the details of errors online, click Show errors.
Then, click Back.
You can use the other buttons to download the error file and the error log.
The error file is a CSV file.
You can use it to fix errors or invalid records and upload it as a correction file.
Using the error file is a quick way to correct several records at once.
You could also choose to fix your original file and upload it again.
But if you've only got one or two records to deal with,
you can update the records online, one member at a time.
The error log is also a CSV file.
This shows all the errors and invalid records in the file you uploaded.
You can use it to work out what changes you need to make.
It also helps you sort the errors into different types.
See our Employer payroll guide for more details
of what information we expect for each field.
Click Done to go back to the Manage your contribution schedules page.
Once you've fixed the errors and the records have been validated,
you're ready to submit the schedule for payment.
Click the link under the Edit/Pay column
for the contribution schedule you want to submit.
You'll pay your contribution schedule using one of the
three payment methods we offer -
Direct Debit, direct credit and debit card.
You'll have chosen one of these options when you set up NEST.
When you're happy with the information you've entered
for members including the totals shown for the
contribution schedule, click Make payment.
You'll see a confirmation screen reminding you that
once you've submitted this payment,
contributions for this period will be locked
until we confirm the payment has been received.
If you need to change anything
you can click No, I'll pay later.
If you're sure you want to pay the contributions,
click Yes, make payment.
You'll now see a screen confirming that
you've submitted the contribution schedule.
It'll also confirm the payment reference
and the method of payment used.
If you're paying by direct credit, make sure you pay the exact
amount confirmed and use the right payment reference
otherwise your payment will be returned.
If you're paying by Direct Debit, we'll collect the money due.
If you're paying by debit card, follow the onscreen instructions.
