The European Fine Art Fair in Maastricht, TEFAF for short...
...is one of the world's leading art and antique fairs.
The fair has proved to have enormous drawing power and is still growing.
It's become an event the serious collector believes he just can't miss.
China became the leader in the international art market this year.
and that fact is clear at TEFAF.
My whole family collects art.
I go to TEFAF every year...
to look at the prices and trends in artworks in Europe...
and to see if there is Chinese art for sale.
Many Chinese are interested in modern art,
but I prefer classical art.
For us the only real criterion is quality.
A good quality piece needn't be all that expensive.
But it must have a certain degree of quality, otherwise it has no place here.
Here we have a winter landscape by Hendrick Avercamp.
You can see from his paintings that he was deaf, so it's claimed,
because his figures are often rather isolated.
We've selected around twenty chairs,
all of them worthy of a place in a museum.
These are unique Delft earthenware plaques...
with portraits of William IV of Orange and his wife Anna.
I just saw a clock in the shape of a bird cage.
It's a well-known Swiss brand. Very beautiful.
I'm taking it with me to China.
