The second type of filtration system you will use
is vacuum filtration. To set up your vacuum filtration,
you will need two Erlenmeyer flasks with these tubes on the side,
two rubber hoses, two stands,
and two clamps. The stands are found in the common lockers located throughout the lab,
and the clamps are found in the drawer labeled clamps. And then you'll need these two pieces,
which can be found at the side of the room
in your 1211 boxes.
The first thing you need to do is take a watch glass
and a label and write your name and your section on the watch glass.
Weigh the watch glass and then take a piece of filter paper and weigh the filter paper.
Now to set up, your
vacuum filtration, you put
your flasks in the clamps
Put these pieces
in the top,
and then connect your tubes.
This end of the tube will go into
the vacuum which is labeled vac
and has the yellow top.
Now you can take your small piece of filter paper
that you've already weighed. Place it inside.
Have your vacuum and turn it on.
Then you can insert your solution into the top.
You can now take out your filter paper from your vacuum
with your crystals on it, and place it on the watch glass,
where it can sit on the shelf for a week.
