Hey little sister, what are you doing?
I'm trying to budget all my bills out, I want to see if I would be able to afford an apartment.
Looking to fly to coop huh?
Kind of, do you have any advice?
Well, after you figure out if you can afford it, make sure that you have at least $100
left over for emergency money. This is important for anything that pops up out of no where.
Like what?
Hospital or doctor visit, car problems, your older sister's birthday present...
Ohhh... ok, well for that I just need an extra $5.
Very funny. Also, make sure that you are budgeting your other bills into the apartment. You aren't
just paying for that alone.
What do you mean?
Well, you may have a place to leave but you will also need lights, heat and air, and water.
You have to account for those bills too.
I've heard of places that bundle that all together.
Those are always a good idea, they keep you up with all your bills. Usually easier for
first timers.
It doesn't look like I'm going to have enough to do it.
Well, there's also the possibility of getting a roommate. That way you only pay for half,
and they pay the other half.
I didn't think about that. It might be fun living with someone!
Yeah, but don't get too excited. You want to make sure to live with someone who is responsible,
because if they can't pay then you will be stuck with the consequences too.
That makes sense. One more thing....
What's that?
Do you want to be my roommate?
Yeah right! I've spent 19 years with you stealing my clothes and makeup!
Hey! It was worth a try! Plus it would really lower the cost of my miscellaneous expenses.
