there's a group of people in business today who are subtly different from
those who have gone before them they are what we call generation Y people born after 1980
who seem to need a different workplace environment and a different way of being managed why is
that well partly their your sons and daughters that have been brought up differently these
are the ones that have travelled with you to and from football matches and been coached
on the way there and on the way back and it's the same for dancing and tennis they're the
ones at school who embarked on debate and cross-classroom challenges working as teams
to solve problems they're the ones who grew up with the technology that allows global
reach that is based around MTV and playstation3 that's based around colour short sharp clips
and images with the result that they continually seek to grow and master new skills as they
move through another stage in the nintendo game they expect results immediate rewards
and gratification they speak freely so what does that mean in terms of the workplace it
means you need to create a workplace where there is social interaction where people are
solving things as a group not individually which is visually simulating which allows
them to develop continually and you need to support them in that but actually is there
really a gap are they so different and actually how do you manage those people I'll look at
that in the next video
