Hi, and welcome to Unisport WebTV.
Winter is most definitely upon us,
but luckily this isn't enough to stop people from playing football.
This is why I will be taking a look, at how you can keep warm in the winter cold.
In 2012 I had a look at Under Armours ColdGear
and today I'll be taking a look at Nikes Hyperwarm series.
The series has different models, technologies and prices -
and I have reviewed four of the Hyperwarm shirts
which you, today, will get an overview of -
and the four shirts are these;
this is Hyperwarm Compression Mock,
Hyperwarm Compression Fusion,
we have Hyperwarm Shield,
and Hyperwarm Fitted Max Shield.
So if you're tired of all the clothes layers, heavy t-shirts, or just being cold -
then it's today you need to watch,
and maybe be inspired by the shirts behind me.
Let's get this show on the road!
The four Nike Hyperwarm shirts, that we will be looking at today, can be divided into two categories.
The first two are compression shirts, the black and yellow ones,
And the last two are Shield shirts, the red and the blue ones.
The first one we will be looking at is the black shirt,
that is a Hyperwarm Compression Mock shirt.
It is the most simple of them all,
but this doesn't necessarily make it technologically unadvanced,
because it is made with Nikes DriFit technology -
and at the same time, it has a sort of fleece material on the inside,
which goes in and makes sure you're well insulated in this shirt.
This Nike DriFit technology is the core of all of Nike's baselayer shirts -
and what it does is it goes in and removes sweat and moisture from your body,
So you don't get too cold, while still keeping you dry and light.
The way the DriFit works is, the inside is made with large fibres,
While the outside is made with small fibres.
This construction means, that when you sweat -
then the sweat is pulled from your skin by the inside layer and out to the outside -
away from your skin.
Another thing is when you sweat on a small area on the inside,
then it disperses onto a much larger area on the outside -
and this means it dries significantly faster, than a normal t-shirt would.
At the same time this technology also, makes sure,
that the heat you generate when you sweat,
is circulated around your entire body -
This combination makes sure, that you're kept both warm and dry, when playing with a DriFit shirt.
Not bad at all, when the weather is against you.
Back to the compression mock,
then I can tell you, that it is a super nice baselayer shirt,
even though it isn't the most advanced shirt.
it delivers and does what it's supposed to,
you're kept dry, you don't feel weighed down and crucially you're kept nice and warm,
despite it being very very cold weather.
It delivers and that's all there is to say about that!
The Compression Mock shirt here is fairly basic,
and if you want a step up technologically, you can choose this,
That is called Compression Fusion.
It is made with the same principals, as the Compression Mock,
with this Dri-Fit technology,
which means you are kept dry and warm,
but this is also where the similarities end,
because this shirt is made with mesh fields underneath the arms.
They are made to give you more ventilation, when you are performing at full throttle.
On top of that the inside material has also been changed,
it's a little less fleece-like and a little less fluffy,
than it is on the Compression Mock shirt,
it's still nice, but it is a slightly different texture.
All in all, the shirt works really well.
It's a bit tighter, than the Compression Mock -
and then I also really like the mesh area,
because in the Mock shirt, you might actually get a little too hot -
and when you are running with high intensity, a bit of air is always nice around the arms.
Crucially the Fusion shirt keeps you warm -
and that really is the most important part.
Definitely acceptable work!
*RAWR! ROAR! RWAR! RAWR!
Shirt number three is; Hyperwarm Shield,
Which is a bit of a mix between the two first shirts.
Shield is naturally also made with Nikes Dri-Fit technology.
On the inside it has the fluffy, fleece-like material from the Compression Mock.
The way it resembles the Fusion shirt is, that it also has the mesh areas underneath the arms,
but actually the Shield also has a mesh area on the back.
This is however not the craziest part of the shirt,
because on the sleeves you will find the shield technology, from which it gets its name -
and that is this beehive texture, which has been worked into the material.
What it does is, that the material from the elbow and down is water and wind repellent,
which means even in rain, snow and howling winds -
your arms should be dry and warm.
When you are in the heat of the game, the shield works really well -
the fit is nice, the material is soft and these mesh areas really work very well -
especially the one around the neck area.
The biggest feature is still the Shield technology, that really helps against wind and water -
it does just bounce off the shirt, quite impressive really,
I even went home and splashed it with water -
just to prove how well it works.
The shirt is among my very favourites, in the baselayer category,
simply because it is so comfortable and keeps you warm -
as well as it having this mock collar, so you don't get a cold neck.
I like it! in fact I really like it!
The fourth and final shirt we will be taking a look at, is the Hyperwarm fitted Max Shield,
which, as the name implies, has more shield technology than the regular Shield,
in fact it has max shield technology on the sleeves.
The Max Shield reminds me a lot of the Fusion shirt,
this is because it has this less fluffy and fleece-like material,
But it does, however, have a whopping four ventilation panels on the back,
so you have the best possible breathe ability.
The biggest change is still on the sleeves, with the shield technology -
there is more of it, so it now covers the entire sleeve,
and the texture has also been changed.
This shirt is also the one Manchester United and Barcelona have had made to match their kits,
in other words, it's the same model as the one the professionals use, when it's cold.
The Max Shield shirt is a super product,
the fit is nice and you are kept nice and dry -
and this Shield really works impeccably,
and you are spared from a lot of the wind, that would otherwise have free passage to your arms.
The difference between the Max Shield and Shield is unnoticeable,
but the fact that you get the wind and water protection on your entire arm, is something I appreciated.
If I had to choose, it would be very hard, because they are very similar,
but I might actually choose the regular Shield, because of the soft fleece-like material.
That being said, they are both top products -
and all I can do is conclude, that Shield is genius!
Bravo Nike!
This was my presentation/review of the Nike Hyperwarm series,
that, as we have seen, has different qualities, for different needs -
and, as you might expect, the more expensive shirts have more technology, than the cheaper models,
but I will also say, that this shirt, the cheapest at €51,
is also really, really nice -
and if I hadn't known about the other three,
I would have jumped in the Compression Mock, in the blink of an eye,
if you know what I mean.
In a general sense, baselayer is super nice,
because it keeps you warm, without hindering you,
like you would otherwise be, with several layers of clothes -
and this does give you a sense of freedom and lets you perform optimally.
This also makes baselayer a must for me, when the weather is cold -
and I wouldn't play football in the cold without baselayer.
If I had to call a winner among them, it would be a slim victory to the Hyperwarm Shield,
but if this one was in the wash, I would have no problem using one of the others -
and isn't that the greatest compliment?
Anyway, baselayer is a big hit in my book -
and now that you've heard my opinion of the Hyperwarm shirts,
I would love to know what you think?
Do you use baselayer?
Do you use Nike Hyperwarm?
Or what do you do to keep warm in the cold weather?
I'd love to know, so if you write in the box down below, I'd be ever so happy.
This is what I had for today,
but I hope you're all well, until the next time we meet -
right here, on Unisport WebTV.
Cheeerio!
Jay to the mizzle, in the snizzle, and it's pretty kizzle...
