(Juanita:) We're learning anatomy of the eye, how to test patients for diseases,
visual acuities, pupil reflex disorders, color testing.
(Melody:) My biggest role is just to collect data and prepare the patient to see the doctor.
We do that by bringing the patient back, we ask them important questions
about their health history, medications that their taking.
We also test their vision, check pressures, which is inter-ocular pressure of the eye.
It's interesting how you can decipher through a problem
before the doctor ever sees the patient.
We're not able to diagnose anything but we're able to gather data and I think
that a good technician explains what you're doing with the patient so they have an idea
and their cooperation is so much higher if you have that rapport with them.
(Juanita:) I want to help people and I want to work in-clinic.
I prefer to do something like that so I can be one-on-one with a patient.
You can branch out into so much stuff; it's just neat.
