I'm here to teach and explain to you how to buy the right Hula Hoop size.
I have three hula hoop sizes with me today.
I will explain the basic hula hoop sizes by having 36" and there is 38" for taller people.
36" has a little bit more weight than the other two hula hoops here.
You will need to move more harder with your stomach to become really comfortable.
33" is great for people who are transitioning from beginners to indeterminate.
You will be able to use a lot of hand and hip movements.
You will become used to the timing with the hula hoop.
When you turn into an advanced Hooper, you will use 30" where you do a lot of hands and body movements with speed.
I use 30" most of the time when I hula hoop. I would suggest beginners to first get comfortable in 36".
I am going to explain two important key techniques in using hands for hula hooping that you will benefit and apply.
You need to understand the concept of "flow" what do you do with it?
The shape of Hula Hoop is a circle and you should follow through with the circles when it spins.
You should not stop the flow and have consistency in moving with the hula hoop.
You will need to use your hands and be able to move your wrist to get it to move in a circular motion,
where you will be able to comprehend flowing while moving the hands.
Now same concept with applying above the head with spinning,
use your hands to stop the hoop by opening and closing your hands together.
use your hands to stop the hoop by opening and closing your hands together.
Hold on the Hula Hoop to stop it from moving.
You will be able to control the hoop with this move.
Stop. Switch. Stop.
You will feel the flow with this movement.
It is important to follow through the circle movement with your hula hoop.
You all will be able to apply these two moves into any of the tricks and movements you do with the Hula Hoop.
I'm going to show you one of the first tricks I learned in Hula Hooping called 'Helicopter'.
It has two simple hand movements in it.
Have your upper forearms meet each other front of you and you will do the exact same thing with it in the back when you move it.
I will show you the process now.
Start with having the fists upward and twist it to the back with the the other fist meeting the other one.
You will do it slowly until you feel comfortable then speed up more.
The next thing I'm teaching you is a movement that will go above your chest called the 'Shimmy'.
This movement starts with hip hooping.
This movement starts with hip hooping.
You will need to be comfortable to squiggle down your body and then the hula hoop will transition to the upper body.
Tip: You can play around with the hula hoop by finding space holes where you can switch your arms or have both go up inside or outside.
As you just learned the 'Shimmy' movement, now I would like you all to apply it into 'Shoulder Roll'.
It is kinda of intermediate to advanced trick for you guys but it is a good challenge for anyone.
First of all you will do the shimmy with one arm in or both arms inside the hula hoop.
It will elevate to the chest and then that is when you will start one shoulder pushing by forming your shoulders rhythmically.
You can do it with your right shoulder or left shoulder.
You will be creating circular flow by using your shoulders and when you are in the groove.
I want to challenge you to try it yourself!
