AP did a poll to see how Americans are feeling about the United States today
and what it'll be like in 2050 and they tend to have a very gloomy forecast in
fact the majority of Americans predict that things will be worse in 2050
than they are today so let me give you some other specific numbers
I when it comes to the survey 54 percent think that everything will go downhill
23 percent think it will improve by 2050
okay only one in six white people believe the better times over the next
four decades
will occur okay up but minorities tend to be a little more optimistic but
they're still pretty pessimistic
the most %uh pessimistic include middle-aged and older people
those who are earned mid-level incomes and Protestants and Protestants are
specifically worried about
our declining morals could propel K
so I let's discuss those numbers I have more for you but I think it's kinda
fascinating to see that Americans
you know have a very gloomy outlook they don't think that things are gonna get
any better by 2050 and I'm worried that that's going to be a self-fulfilling
prophecy right
we seem to have political apathy here people sit back in may allow certain
things to happen
the NSA spying on us as just one example that no one's really protesting that
except for some
independent media sources I but I don't want them to also sit back and think
that
things are going to keep getting worse so we're not going to do anything about
it
you know that that worries me a little bit well to me it's funny that big jump
that we've made sense when they started doing the surveys back in the seventies
right so
back then the third of Americans and think women should work outside the
house and was a big deal
that the TV character mark got an abortion that was a big deal so
we've come a long way from that I think and so things have gotten better
right over there we've got my able to cure certain Kansas kinds of cancer
aid we've been able to keep that obey you can live now with the aids
are got hepatitis C cure writes in his seventies which is amazing
I got dollars a pill though right *** pills we have those we never thought we
have those we gotta thank god you're ready to go turbo
the Reno Air anti-depressants and change people's lives certainly changed but
like
and to and get universal health care finally gains can now get married in
lotsa places clean air that's not smart
in Los Angeles anymore the lot of good things have happened that people
um but of course we thought the live in servitude to the bank as indentured
servant from the time were born to the time we die but other than that it's not
but everything else
is now running almost peachy I was really a messing up in something there
yeah a bit till the end and global warming it whatever doesn't kill us up
that way yet
know what we will personally be dead before that our children are doomed to
so they have that support you but done when I
what I'm not surprised about in regard to this as you pointed out the people
are most pessimistic that the middle-aged slightly more wealthy I mean
these are the people feel like
when Barack Obama was elected the country's being taken away from them
right like how the hell can a black man be in the white house like
so end in by the way those people are middle income is up poor people that are
the most pessimistic
so that they're actually saying man this this recession is just so bad
it's this like the morals it's the fabric of society it's this
*** vague a theory of stuff that they think is being taken from
it's the sense that conservatives have had since there were conservatives
that the things that they know and can control are slipping away from them they
no longer have control over their lives they don't have control over how their
children's lives are gonna be they don't know what it is
everything seems that things you hold onto they all are too so tight
are slipping away because globalization is here because it easy to communicate
with the rest the world because people from far away lands can come here and
live here in
funny-looking people are getting elected to Congress and the White House
and as to there is always felt like poop what you add
keep what you have that's literally what I don't pay taxes keep what you have
at this is so like one seventy-year-old paid and trusting iraq to Maryland
retired software designer grandmother 5
I worry about the lowering of morals and the corruption the confusion this is
raining down on them
yes claiming that's always great fifty years ago
here's what a 74-year-old grandmother what I said I worry about the lowering a
moral to the corruption at all the changes already got my halo
right there yeah over there is the sphere of progress our fear change in
and you see it today but
what I love about it is all the sudden you're seeing this rejection
a religion dictating our so-called morals right
so in the last 11 2012 things changed i mean i i noticed that
there was this rejection among Millennials especially
up the idea that you have to live a conservative lifestyle
that we're talk about this later but
abortion unfortunately in reproductive rights did suffered
tremendously in the last election but it also really hurt the Republican Party
anyone who came out against gay rights they got hurt so conservative values are
kinda starting to
you know fall out of favor from a lot of a american voters and I love that which
is right now we're also seeing the emergence irv
libertarians because they're considered socially liberal a fiscally conservative
but it I don't know what we're seeing the emergence room I don't know I really
wanna hang on I'll certainly more now than ever before and I know that it's
not a big deal right now but I still see a significant
among my peers I think that there's
a lot more their favorable views a third party
and it's not necessarily just libertarians I think people are really
tired the way politics is working right now especially with republican I would
say
again I think that's something that's always out there and that you have
people who have a certain age range in our interested in politics and some
level but don't follow it day-to-day a ton
the idea but third party like fixing everything is always seems like a great
idea
and course just the the very idea that a third party could do anything at all
requires a certain lack of knowledge about the way our electoral system works
but does it is certainly appealing and we do here a lot because they all run
part everything about the the college-age libertarian so it does seem
to be like a big thing
we will you mention is really fast one I'm not I i believe there is a zero
percent
higher number libertarians and there were four years ago you know I think
you're wrong
among my peers and covered more I don't even get on a guy ran for president
sorry I not know what she was talking about her appeared on my peers which is
you know
donors and i could get your car's a but
I don't know a crossover lot a crossover we're not really up on the things that
we're talking about
but my peers now you know what you would say that the republicans with
Republicans would say is that they don't
stop history the night against the progress officially they stand against
the progress a pastry
and bad ideas and say stop except that all those things that they try to say
stop to turn out to be great ideas you know what
the New Deal rental security and medicare and unions
and a woman's right to choose and a 40-hour workweek all these thing and
Environmental Control
so that when they say that we stated that they love to say that conservatives
a integration it integration sure all rights a civil right
so they stand up against all great ideas to they stand up against everything and
say stop
not just bad ideas lots a great ideas to get they don't believe in let's
that like it so I lot idea see what sticks they're like yeah I don't look
that nothing should lick
not let's do nothing yet to leave it as a it I would have mostly like about this
story may be elaborate the beginning when the star rating and overcast
Americans forecast downhill slide to 2050 and I imagined
like you know what are the LA weather forecasters doing this forecast
I get up stand up for the big board you know
fifty-four percent of Americans are saying that the the things are gonna go
down here
I her weekend 23 percent the year we get is about to improve him
