In conservation news, an environmental film festival is held in India and Sri Lanka. The
2011 Wildscreen Festival, sponsored by the United Kingdom’s British Council in collaboration
with the National Science Foundation, the Department of Wildlife Conservation and TVE
Asia Pacific, visited Delhi, Pune, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Bhubaneswar in India and Colombo
in Sri Lanka. Wildlife and environmental films from throughout the world, including winners
of the prestigious Panda Awards, were shown. In addition, 12 eco filmmakers from the UK
shared their ideas with young movie creators. The festival is a part of the British Council’s
Climate Change Programme, with the goal of lessening the effects of global warming in
urban areas.
A big green salute, British Council and all partners, for this wonderful endeavor. May
the enthralling media of films help many individuals awaken to the urgency of taking vital steps
to preserve our planet, with God’s speed.
