Many young unemployed designers
try to self-produce their products,
in order to exist.
They have tree possibilities.
The first one is becoming artists,
trusting that their domestic objects
would be sell in art's galleries
as objects of art, at typical high price of art
even if thier name
does not have the reputation
that art requires.
Furnitures maybe someone will succeed.
However I think,
it's a serious decline to rebuild, in name of art,
the privilege of aesthetic in domestic objects.
The second possibility
is becoming designers attend upon the bricoleurs,
attend upon a popular design produced by all,
that crisis is necessarily increasing.
During Salone del Mobile 2009 in Milan,
some young self-producers designers,
by themselves called Recession Designers then,
presented prototypes for furnitures in a gallery of art,
made with the technique and components typical of « do-it-yourself »,
supported by the success in the media,
some of them proposed to Brico company
to promote a design and a customers assistance
in their shopping centers according to the way of « do-it-yourself ».
The company refused the idea
but it was a original redefinition of the designer's role
these young designers would be attend upon the costumers' creativity,
diametrically opposite, to the author piece,
promoters of the project's re-qualification from below.
The diffusion of the aesthetic achieved through the participation from below,
can permit to assume that the aesthetic,
as water,
is not an elite privilege,
but a "common good".
The third possibility
is to reinvent the job and the company
staring from the self-production.
The FabLab is getting more popular also in Italy,
laboratories equipped with machines,
rented for hours,
if young groups of self-producers designers
can realize in the FabLab
small collections to sell on the web
then they realize the first nucleus
of a different and small company
where is recreated the integration
between the project and the manual skill
and where who works in,
manages all the production cycle
to the project until the market,
and exercises in this way
the re-appropriation of the job.
This can be a part of a phenomenon
that is getting more and more popular,
to reject to delegate.
