Siri is supposed to be able to help you with a lot of things — and now it looks like
Apple’s adding the ability to order movie tickets via the voice-recognition system.
According to 9to5Mac, all a user has to do is ask for a certain movie, then the showtimes
and theater information will be shown. Then, they can click the buy movie tickets button
and then will be routed to finish their purchase via the Fandango app from the App Store. If
they don’t have Fandango installed, Siri provides a button to download it.
So, Siri doesn’t do the job start-to-finish. A writer for The Verge says, “It's a bit
of a drag that you won't be able to secure tickets using only your voice, but the deeper
integration should still save a bit of time.”
A writer for VentureBeat notes — Fandango may not be the best partner for Siri, because
it …
“ … leaves out plenty of movie theaters that handle ticketing through Flixster’s
app (which also owns Rotten Tomatoes). Since Apple already has a deal with Rotten Tomatoes
for movie times though, I suspect Flixster integration is coming along as well.”
The process isn’t completely clear yet. But tech site Ubergizmo says quote, "some
speculate that Passbook could be involved."
Passbook is an app for the iPhone that puts plane tickets, gift cards, coupons and more
in one place.
iOS 6.1 is currently in the beta testing phase. The Siri movie theater ticket capabilities
will initially only be offered in the U.S.
