Welcome to Bay State Briefs. A behind the scene look, on the road with the Governor.
Governor Patrick visited Quincy Tuesday to announce an Executive Order establishing a
Small Business Purchasing Program to give Massachusetts-based small businesses greater
access to procurement opportunities.
Continuing the Patrick-Murray Administration's commitment to providing access to affordable
housing across the Commonwealth, Governor Patrick joined community leaders at Olmstead
Green in Dorchester on Wednesday to celebrate the completion of 50 new affordable rental
apartments. The second phase of construction was made possible through support from a number
of federal and state affordable housing programs.
Later on Wednesday, Governor Patrick signed the state's fourth consecutive on-time, responsible
and balanced budget -- a $27.6 billion spending plan for Fiscal Year 2011. It holds spending
to just 0.2 percent over the previous year's estimated total and includes $457 million
in cuts to manage the gap created by Congress' failure to pass legislation that would have
resulted in additional aid for Massachusetts.
On Friday, the Governor toured George's Bakery and Mann's Orchard in Methuen, meeting with
residents and local business owners, to highlight his Administration's investment in opportunities
for small businesses to expand and prosper.
