KRISTINE BOWEN: I want to officially welcome you to our
Becoming YouTube Stars Event, and thank you all for coming.
PATRICK WALKER: Today is very much about learning how to
develop into a true YouTube partner, getting tips and
tricks on how to be successful or give yourself the best
chance of success.
So I'm just going to toss this into the crowd, if you can
just pass it around a little bit.
Oh!
So that ball has been going around about 30 seconds.
Pretty soon it's going to come up on a minute.
Wow, good timing.
In the time that that ball has been around the room, would
you believe that 35 hours of video has
been uploaded to YouTube?
Put that in sort of Hollywood film release terms, that's the
equivalent of about 170,000 films being released per week
in the cinemas.
It's a lot of content.
We're really trying to get you guys to learn from the
experts, and develop your talents in a way that-- not
just to help express them in the best possible way, but use
the platform, leverage the community, and learn from
people who can guide you.
BEN RELLES: You're making amazing content, and we've
seen incredible content from all over the world.
And very often, we see that the people who do best are the
people who have also figured out how to use the platform,
to use it as a social medium, to market themselves, and to
really focus on making both great content, but also
building that audience.
So the next piece of advice here in the video section is
to think about optimizing for search, and not just in terms
of creating the right titles and tags, which I'm sure you
guys are familiar with, but even thinking about what are
the types of videos that will actually be relevant to either
long-term search trends or the search trends that week.
And Youtube is the second biggest search
engine in the world.
So the final piece of advice regarding videos themselves is
I really encourage figuring out ways to collaborate.
I don't think there's any single thing you can do that
could drive traffic quicker than collaborating with
another big channel.
Even if you can't collaborate with other big, giant
channels, which often will increase viewership really
quickly, you can get a similar boost if you can figure out
ways to collaborate with people who are making very
similar content, and then that audience will carry over.
AUSTIN LAU: I'm extremely excited to announce a new
program that's going to be launching at the end of May
called YouTube NextUp.
YouTube NextUp is designed to identify high-potential
up-and-coming YouTube partners, and catalyze and
turbocharge their growth in the platform.
And so up to 25 winners will be selected across Europe,
each with a proven motivation and a great, great content
idea for YouTube.
Then there's going to be several rounds of judging, one
of which will include community voting.
We're just going to open it up to the world and say, who do
you think should be the next YouTube star in Europe?
HAZEL HAYES: Either get on the JumpStart Program if you're
very new, definitely get on the Partner Program if you
think you're ready, if and when you are.
End of May, this amazing new program launches, so do try
and get involved in that and hopefully be one of the
winners of $20,000, which is kind of amazing.
AUDIENCE: Talking about the Partnership Program, I would
be really interested in an option for partners to choose
which adverts are displayed next to their videos.
I'll have some say in that.
HAZEL HAYES: It's a great suggestion, and we can put it
forward to the product team.
What we're trying to do, sort of in the future, is we want
to get to a place where there is a hub for both partners and
advertisers that they can go on.
Advertisers can see sort of partners that they'd be
interested in sponsoring, and vice versa.
MALE SPEAKER: [BEATBOXING]
Now something different.

TOM PICKETT: Talent can come from anywhere, so we are truly
committed to fostering the type of talent that we
have in this room.
We want to expand the Partnership Program as
aggressively as we can, and we're looking to invest
dollars, training, education, all sorts of ways to invest in
your future.
