Trump announces next shutdown, rules out any immigration plan that can make it through Congress
The Trump administration has started negotiating the next government shutdown in an entirely not surprising way, by announcing that the popular vote loser will not even think about the bipartisan plan that could actually pass in Congress.
WASHINGTON—A leading bipartisan Senate immigration proposal is “totally unacceptable” to President Donald Trump and “should be declared dead on arrival,” the White House said Tuesday, reaffirming a hard line on a contentious issue that has become entangled with U.S.
government funding in recent weeks. […].
The plan doesn’t meet all four benchmarks set by Mr Trump, [White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee] Sanders said, including increased border-security funding, an end to the diversity visa-lottery program and family-based immigration and a “permanent solution” to the future of the young immigrants who were brought to the U.S.
illegally as children, a group sometimes known as the Dreamers.
“That was never even introduced,” Mr Flake said of the Graham-Durbin plan.
“Any immigration bill that we come up with will have some concepts from various bills, but we never expected that to be the final product.”.
It “was never meant to be a bill—that was meant to be a proposal to jump-start the conversation we have,” said Mr Graham.
“To my friends at the White House, you’ve been all over the board, you haven’t been a reliable partner and the Senate is going to move.
Please be constructive as we go forward, let us know.”.
His friend at the White House is still all over the board, by the way, helpfully muddying the waters again with a tweeted potshot at Democrats and his favorite demand: Cryin’ Chuck Schumer fully understands, especially after his humiliating defeat, that if there is no Wall, there is no DACA.
We must have safety and security, together with a strong Military, for our great people!.
All Trump really cares about is his wall.
If it were just him, this probably wouldnt be all that hard.
Give a few billion for some kind of wall and its over.
But its not just him.
Its the white nationalists hes surrounded himself with that have all those other demands, who insist on taking this opportunity to totally remake decades of progress in immigration policy and make American white again.
