Hello everyone and welcome to my new YouTube account.
I'm Maria, I am 22 years old, I'm from Greece and I'm learning Basque by myself.
2 years ago I entered the world of self-directed language learning
I started learning Spanish,
and I've been learning Basque for almost 10 months now,
and
I like it very much because I find it very different in grammar and vocabulary
compared to other European languages.
I saw Jose Miguel's video [Colombian self-taught Basque speaker]
and I have to say
that I'm amazed.
Jose Miguel, congratulations!
As you see, there are self-taught Basque speakers outside the Basque Country
well, not many exist but I believe they'll gradually appear.
Well, my level of Basque is not very good, like yours,
but
as you say, one can learn Basque without having to go to the Basque Country.
well, it's not impossible.
I've never been to the Basque Country, I'm learning it through the Internet.
I haven't got any books in Basque
Nowadays there are lots of options to learn Basque on the Internet
for example,
One webpage I like is mintzalagun.com
because it's very good for learning new stuff in a short period of time
aprendereuskera.com and Santurtziko udal euskaltegia's page are very useful for me
apart from these,
radio, YouTube, Basque music and Skype help me a lot
But, well, to be honest, I sometimes get a little nervous when I speak Basque with other people
But nobody's perfect anyway.
what else?
Ah, people often ask me "Why are you learning Basque?"
My story with Basque isn't long.
About a year ago, that is, in summer 2013,
I met a Basque girl
and the first time I heard her speak Basque
I was really surprised.
I said to myself "What a beautiful language! I don't understand a thing but I love listening to it!"
and I decided to learn Basque a couple of minutes later.
This is my story with Basque.
Well, Basque is not the easiest language in the world,
But there are difficulties in any language, isn't it so?
Every language has its own.
It's worth it. [Learning Basque]
What else?
I don't know what else to say, so thank you for watching this video.
That´s all folks.
Bye!
