Body adornment is used to mean more than fashion, more than clothing
It is anything we do to our bodies to modify it, change it
The exhibition is a historical look at dress, then there is a film that deals with the street,
and a section of urban portraiture and wardrobe studies.
It was a co-curated project with young people; they were part of the decision-making process
for the exhibtion.
We picked out photos that represented the wide variety of personalities in London.
You're getting pictures from our own point of view. It was a chance to show who these
London people are, and how Londoners look.
It's also about how clothing reflects personality.
The young people that we worked with also chose a variety of outfits to put inside the
exhibition.
We see these dress practices in the street, and these people are not outside of London,
but belong to London - and that is important for this exhibition.
You come to London, and it's so mixed, so many different personalities.
The idea for thinking about the Body Adorned was thinking about the Horniman's large collection
of material relating to dress and the body.
It uses the historical collection for us to reflect on the same questions, looking at
the contemporary. They are the past in the present.
The exhibition will be interesting for people who are interested in dress, interested in
fashion, and, of course, people who are interested in the city of London.
