On behalf of expertvillage.com, my name is Dean Forrest with Sedona Coffee Roasters.
I am here to talk about roasting coffee. Every roast that we do here at Sedona Coffee Roasters
is specific to a specific recipe. Many straight coffees will do just straight coffees but
also we have a lot of blends, a lot of custom blends and the way that we make sure that
it is the same exact taste every time is that we specifically weigh each coffee in any blend
to exact proportions, exact weight and this is how we do that. After we drop our roast
and it is cooled off in the cooling tray, we pour it in a bucket. We also weigh it number
1, to get an idea exactly what I got for beans and number 2, how much loss there was. Whenever
we roast a bean, we lose a lot of moisture, we gain a lot of mass but I just want to keep
track of exactly where I am. It helps me tell how consistent I am with the roast. Every
20 pound roast of Columbian beans should weigh exactly or very close to the same every time
I roast so we weigh each bean after the roast.
