Hi and welcome to Cerritos College.
My name is Dr. Lucinda Aborn.
And I'm the Dean of Disabled Student Programs and Services.
And we usually call it DSPS.
We welcome you to the college and to our office.
We work together with students with disabilities to
provide them the accommodations,
both in the classrooms as well as outside the classrooms.
So they have the equal opportunity that all students have to succeed.
We have faculty that work together with you.
We have specialists that can provide an overview of what kinds of things
you might need in the classroom to accommodate your disability.
Our faculty are trained to understand what those issues are.
And to be able to work very closely with you to setup just the right accommodation.
Those of you who are coming from high school,
may need assistance in transitioning to higher education.
As the provisions of services for students with disabilities
is very different than high school.
Or you may be a returning adult that has a newly acquired disability.
And we work together with you to help overcome any barriers
that are created by that.
Our office is located in two areas.
One is in the Santa Barbara building, which is our main office that we
usually schedule appointments and provide testing accommodations.
We also have the Instructional Support Center,
which is located near the food court. And can provide you with support
as it relates to assistive technology,
alternate media formats,
and a specialized instructional process.
We look forward to working with you, in the next semesters to come,
and wish you all the very best and success academically.
Welcome!
