Hi, my name is Chris, from Aquatic Central, here in San Francisco, and on the web at:
aquatic-central.com, and today, I'd like to tell you how to care for a Betta fish. Proper
care of a Betta, as with all fish, revolves around maintaining good water quality, and
inducing minimal stress. This can be achieved primarily, by having a filtration system of
some sort. Although Bettas can survive without a filter, providing that frequent water changes
are made. Regardless with a filtration system, you'll still need to do water changes. Heaters
are generally not required for Bettas, provided you can maintain a temperature range of approximately
seventy to seventy two degrees Fahrenheit. One thing to keep in mind about Bettas, is
do not place multiple Betta fish together. Males and females, as they'll most likely
fight, unless you're trying to breed them. Do not place them within view, within sight
of each other, as they will probably posture and flare excessively, and this will cause
stress, and an approximate water change regimen for bettas, is probably twenty five to fifty
percent, twice weekly, providing that there's no filter, and again, depending on the size
of the bowl or tank, and if there is a filter present, you can probably do a twenty five
percent water change, once monthly. Again, caring for a Betta is quite easy, if you can
just maintain good water quality, and keep the fish as minimally stressed as possible.
