uh... nasa new
that the columbia crew
would die upon re-entry
uh... to births atmosphere
so idly who was in two thousand three
uh... that this happened
and study or some kind of
technological malfunction or physical malfunction with the spaceship
and they do
uh... some vital pieces were missing you would not survive re-entry they were
going to open to a tremendous fireball and all about
and
that's exactly what happened so they know what's gonna happen and then they
have this moral conundrum
they said look
were put in a position now
what do we do do we tell them that they're not gonna make it
do we not tell them what's
what makes sense what doesn't make sense than anything about that annual and the
knowledge that somebody was gonna dot
do you tell them
do you not tell them
i mean eight in this particular case talking about coming back from space
ariana say look this is just my opinion obviously reasonable people can disagree
with me on this and we can debate all night right but just from my own
perspective if it was me up there
i would not want to know
because if you tell me that there's a zero percent chance that i'm gonna
survive re-entry an ominous patient on my way back
and um... i have whatever five minutes ten minutes an hour a day whatever dates
to contemplate my existence away came to know when i knew that inevitably on
their face my mortality eliot be gone
the type of psychological uh... position that would put me in
is one that i would rather
be ignorant of the situation
and
not know it and and parish then know it
over think about it put myself into a frenzy a panic in
anxiety attack whatever you want to call it i'd just wouldn't be able to take it
it would be able to take it
so but they decided to not to tell them
and uh... they ended up passing away
the only good argument i've heard to the contrary
why isn't he a board about their family would like it when they were similar to
the west of us in our family people they love their friends and stuff like that
and all the timing
that's in atlanta good argument it's like that's where it gets really uh...
maki and it's hard to make a decision
but it's also possible i don't know but it's possible that maybe you know before
they left or
even on the way back when they knew something went wrong
they date said their advises that this and guess what i might not come back or
i mean if you're going to space shorty note a high-risk thing you don't know
how old's gonna go so i would imagine that there were moments where
you know essentially set you know this could be less time that it up
i don't know for sure but i'm just saying that might be the case
and again just for my own
personal both perspective here
if i was uh... if i had a vote in the nasa room when they were discussing it
i would've voted don't tell them because i knew i wouldn't
want to know that
and uh... apparently it was overwhelming that most people said
don't tell them
