Hey! I am Mark Black and welcome to expertvillage.com. We are going to be talking about vocal performance.
Just to mention that this is a cardinal sin to many voice teachers but not me: coffee
and tea, yeah! Coffee and tea are just fine, they don’t hurt your throat. What they do
is they are diuretics and they make you go to the bathroom and so for lot of people when
they are thirsty, they drink coffee, they go to the bathroom and the cumulative effect
is that they have less liquid in them than they did before. But me personally, when I
have a gig or something big and important I am going to go to Starbucks and get a big
Venti latte and I am going to drink that for six hours while I am singing all time because
it doesn’t make me go to the bathroom. So, my point here is that those things don’t
hurt your throat, they may dehydrate you and if they do, you don’t need to drink. So,
you need to think about before you have a gig or singing that you are not eating or
drinking things they cause a lot of mucous in the throat.
