Having already visited the tip I now had time to explore the surrounding area.
I headed off along the track to Somerset when trouble struck.
Ok what you see here is I just blew a shock absorber apart.
I've been smelling this burning smell for a while and kept on checking to see what it
was and couldn't find anything
Just went over a washout there and heard a crack, burning smell again and yes that's it.
That's going to slow me down a bit and I'll have to try and get this *** off and crawl
on back up another 7km to Somerset.
I'll have to take it slow as I've got only 1 shock on the side now so the others are
probably pretty hot too.
You can see the extent of the damage, popped straight out.
May have to cut through the top and take that nut off and it should be ok then.
I'll get to work.
Ok this is the result, I've done about 1800 kilometres since Cairns.
They've been pretty good so far and didn't notice too much of a change in my ride.
I guess it was just time to go. So I'll have to get a few more next time I hit Cairns.
All this kind of crap can happen on the Cape, it's all good though.
Well I just lost a shock, and was able to get it off with some help of people who came
round so that was really great.
I've tied a bit of wire around the spring so it won't pop out again. Just keep heading
along the track and maybe stop into Seisia and find a second hand shock.
Just a slow craw low range now. See how I go.
Still getting along quite slowly doing about 40-50km/h, corrugations getting pretty rough now.
That back end definitely jumps around a bit.
I expect to reach Seisia or Bamaga in an hour. Will see how I go.
The next day I checked with all the local mechanics and wreckers for spare shocks without success.
A new shock was being flown up from Melbourne meaning an extra 4 days in Seisia.
Not a bad place to get stuck really.
Well I couldn't help myself. Had to come back one last time before I headed on back down south.
I got my shock fixed yesterday so no stopping me now.
I had a great trip. Hope you all get the chance to come up here some time.
A great feeling. Just watched a beautiful sunrise.
Catch you later from BushmanProductionsAU.
