Hello every one, today we're going to talk about illustrators perspective grid tool.
Some of you requested a video and I'm going to show you today how to create
this little box and also how to draw a Macbook Air. So let's get started.
As always you can download the sample document we are using today
and you find the link to the website
in the Youtube description.
Let's take a look at our document
I have already prepared some samples that we're going to use.
Let's get started with our perspective grid.
You can click this button to show your grid.
And in here you can adjust your vanishing points
like this. And also the horizonline, you can move it up and down.
You can also change the plains in here, but this
will not actually change your perspective
just the element you're working on.
Let's move this back.
Then we can also take a look under view ->
Perspective Grid
You can lock you grid. If I am happy with my grid right now, you can just lock it.
And if we go back o this point
You can also see, we have a lot of other
things we can set in here as well.
FOr example, we can make this one a 3 point
perspective grid, and so on.
If we go on define grid, we can
make a lot of adjustments
And one important thing, you can also save your grid.
If you want to use it for other documents.
Also keep in mind, you can only have one grid activated per document.
Unfortunately, the perspective grit is a little bit limited.
So vector files you can throw on there without any problems
but if you have a picture or if you have a gradient, like in this one here
you have a problem, because it doesn't really work.
So to do this one, we need to go on objects
and we going to choose expand.
And this id going to create a whole vector file of all of this
so it convert's the gradient into single colors.
We need to do this for the other elements as well.
And now we can put it onto our perspective grid.
You can click here, and go to the perspective grid selection tool.
And now you can select this element here
and just drag it onto the perspective grid.
You see here, it appears over here.
If you want to have it on the other side
you can change the perspective plain, by pressing the keys 1-3.
So at the moment we are on perspective 1
If we click 2, we're going to the bottom plain
and with 3 we're going to the right.
In this case I want to keep this on the right.
Then I take the next pice, I press the key 1
to have it in the right perspective.
Put it over here.
And I take the lid
and press key 2 to get this on the bottom.
You see here, this isn't orientated right.
So I need to press the *esc*-key
and turn this one by 90°.
I change back to the perspective selection tool by pressing *Shift*+*V*
And now I can put it onto here.
Let's zoom in here for a second.
And You see I still would need to turn this
by 180° but I just will leave it like it is right now.
And you see now, if i put it here
it's still on the bottom, so we want to get this up.
At the moment we can only move it in this plain
to move this up were going to place it were we want to have it.
And then we press the key 5 and hold it
and now we can shift it up in perspective.
Well something like this.
We would need to adjust this a little bit more, that everything
fits nice together.
But for now I just going to
click on the "X" to hide the grid and look at our results.
And I think this looks quite nice.
Let's work on our laptop next.
We going to copy those elements.
And I'm going to make a new file.
So we have a new fresh perspective grid
because I want to have another perspective for this element here.
You see now, I can't move those around, because I still have the perspective selection tool activated.
So I'm pressing *V* again and move them out of the way.
We change this one here to perspective grid.
And we going to see that we get a nice perspective.
I think this should be all right.
We switch to the perspective selection tool
and we just going to take the upper lid of this.
This are just some boxes
you can draw with this element here and the rounded corner box
and just some text.
Let's take the perspective selection tool
and we going to move this on the 3rd plain.
We also take the bottom one
press the key 2
and we see again we need to rotate this.
so lets do this.
I press the shift key to rotate it by 90°
and again I switch to the
perspective selection tool
and place this in front of the screen.
Let's zoom in here
and make sure we get them aligned properly.
And now I shouldn't use the normal selection tool, if I want to move things around here
I should always use the perspective selection tool to keep the perspective.
So this should be fine.
Let's zoom out, hide our grid
and move this one in the center.
And this gives you here a warning; That you should move things around with the perspective selection tool.
But we don't care at the moment, let's rescale this a little bit.
And now we only need to add a little bit here
to give this the Macbook Air feeling.
For this I'm going to use the pen tool.
And I'm just going to create some new lines.
We going to send this to the back.
And with the eyedropper tool I just going to take the same color as it is above.
Just make some small adjustments.
This should be fine for now.
If you want to add now an USB port and things like this.
We can not do this with the perspective grid tool, because we already have moved our laptop.
But we just can take the pen tool again.
Zoom in here.
And draw a little box.
You might want to decrease the thickness of the line.
And there we have our nice laptop.
All right that's it for this tutorial
until next time, cu bye bye!
