Labor of Love
My name is Cara Muhlhahn, I'm a midwife. I've been practicing for 30 years.
I delivered approximitely 700 babies in all different settings - home, hospital
and birthing center. I would say that I discovered that
I was a midwife over maybe a 5 year course of living and interacting with life,
and some of that interacting brought experiences to me, and I found myself
is situations where there were emergent things happening and I found that I knew what to do.
I didn't immediatelly know that I wanted to become a midwife,
but as soon as I discovered that I was going to play that role, then
that honed down my search for a career. One of the reasons why
home birth is important and why it's special is because birth is a family event.
So you have the option to decide who's going to be at your labor.
Most women and end up flowing better in a private environment.
But that choice is going to be completely up to you.
That's an important thing. So, you will know and we will help you
create an environment that's good for you to give birth in.
And you're going to have that freedom because you're at home.
Yo're not going to be working in my appartment, birth is going to be taking place
in your environment.
The most rewarding thing about being a midwife is that I feel I'm supporing women
in their process of empowerment.
We go though a lot of ups and downs but in the end, if a woman gives birth
and becomes more empowered as a result of my care,
I walk away from a situation empowered as well.
I am a midwife. this is my calling.
