Hi, I'm Sarah. I'm a Youth Services Librarian here at the Westerville Public
Library and I'm here to recommend a really great book that is actually a
Newbery Honor book for 2016. This is the Inquisitor's Tale, or the Three Magical
Children and Their Dog by Adam Gidwitz. Um, this story takes place in the year
1242 in France which is the Middle Ages and you're like why is this
book for me? Well, this is a historical fantasy and it's exciting, it's
unexpected, it's a really unique story. So basically we start out in a pub in rural
France and the story is kind of being told from the perspective of the Inquisitor
and the Inquisitor is a collector of stories and he's hearing all of
these stories about these three extraordinary children. The three
children are Jeanne so that's Jeanne, she is a peasant girl and she has psychic
abilities, William who's a dark skinned monk and he also has super
strength so he's unusual as well and then there's
a small Jewish boy named Jacob who has the power to heal which at that time was
really unusual and of course their magical dog who actually rises
from the dead. These three kids are outcasts from their community because of
their respective communities because of their differences and so they set out
they cross paths and set out on a really amazing journey together which includes
a flatulent dragon, quicksand, battles with Knights and eventually the quest
becomes saving all of these Jewish books from being burned by the king of France
and his wicked mother the Queen. So I highly recommend this one it's just a
great read and super exciting, unexpected interesting, fast-paced so really loved
this highly recommend it. Hope you check it out.
