Quakes hit the Philippines, Formosa (Taiwan), Australia and New Zealand. With dozens of
earthquakes recorded in the Philippines over a two-day period as of Saturday, April 16,
the government advised residents to evacuate the island of Luzon in fears of an upcoming
eruption of the Taal Volcano. Also on Saturday, Formosa felt the tremors of a 5.7 magnitude
jolt in the northeastern part of the nation, while the same day, Australia’s northern
Queensland was rocked by a 5.2 magnitude earthquake that was also felt in Mackay and other nearby
areas. In the early hours of Monday, April 18, a powerful 6.6-magnitude quake rattled
the northeastern coast of New Zealand, prompting a local tsunami warning to be issued that
was later lifted. There were fortunately no injuries or damage reported for any of the
events.
We are relieved to know of the safety of all in the quake-affected regions. May our Earth
and all inhabitants be protected as humanity's greater benevolence helps minimize such adverse
events as these
