Hiya! What I thought I’d do today is I would show what I am actually doing at minute as
my studio practice for my 2nd year. Now I’ve moved away from doing metal sculpting, mainly
because I think I got a bit bored of actually physically making stuff. So, what I’ve started
learning at the minute is how to use programming language to create digital art. So I will
give you a quick example today. When I say quick examples, this is totally Blue Peter
stuff I’ve done, earlier. Now this is the stuff, I’ve done earlier; we’ll do a quick
one now. In the top corner I am writing the code, just to make a basic circle. So now
that I’ve typed that it right it should run... So yeah here is my little circle example,
but what if I want to go may be a step further. So this example that I did earlier, oh BluePeter!...
you’ll notice in the top corner I’ve got a little circle starting there. As I move
my mouse about it generates a lot of other little circles behind it, which is quite cool
as it generates a 3D pattern. However, for this one, I’ve actually directly started
to put commands on top of it; if I press the mouse it colour changes, so for this one I’ve
done a slightly lighter yellow. As I drag it it’s a different colour. So I’ll do
a really big sweeping example here, and if I hadn’t pressed it. That’s one thing
I’ve been playing about with at the minute. I’ve just remembered, I have to change the
size of this one because it’s a little bit too small. For this one, as soon as I start
dragging my mouse across, smaller circles start appearing and the size varies depending
on how quickly I move my mouse. If I quickly do a drag movement, got some big ones if I
slowly move my mouse I get all these tiny little ones, just here. Once again if I press
down, colour changes. Now one of the reasons I am quite enjoying
this is because of the idea of an artist having an immediate impact on something. So let’s
just say on a whim I fancy changing my background to a stunning pink of some description, I
just type in there and let’s just say I want to change the colour it is when I press
it. Oh Look there is my stunning pink background, still got the white circles but now if I press
down pink! Wasn’t expecting that but it’s not really pink, it’s reddy-pink. If you
must know I was thinking of yellow, I have no idea what just happened... oh well, still
learning, this stuff happens! So yeah this is what I’m doing at the minute, had to
present all of this work yesterday. It’s really quite confusing to explain when I don’t
even entirely understand what I am doing. I’ve seen why it isn’t working there we
go, Yellow! This proves that if you miss out one number, can make a radical difference
actually. So that is my practice at the minute, I’m enjoying it and hopefully this is going
to lead me to create some interactive final major project for my end of year show this
year. So I hope you enjoyed looking at that and I’m sure I will post up more work of
mine as I go along ok, bye!!
