Hi! I´m Vitor Lambert with the Boulevard of Broken Dreams tutorial, by Green day
Another lesson and one more time I would like to remember of the DVD that I´ll shoot
I know I´ve been talking a lot about this, but I´ll ask again to join my Fan Page on Facebook,
where you can be updated of the DVD and all the other lessons
Just look for Vitor Lambert on Facebook and like the page ok?
Before start the lesson I would like to thanks my sponsors: Playtech, Prime Drums, Amedia Cymblas and Caltran Street wear, thanks a lot!
Let´s start!
The song starts with six empty measures for the drums; in the first four measures there´s only guitar and the last two with acoustic guitar and voice
After this we´ll play a simple groove
Ok? We´ll play this in A part, Riff, A part again, Riff
At the end of the Riff we´ll play a little fill and go to the Chorus
The Chorus is quite simple too, but you´ll have to pay attention to some snares that are played sometimes in the first repetition and sometimes in the second.
The notes are in brackets cause they´re optional and not ghost notes
I´ll demonstrate the whole Chorus, playing first and second end, then I´ll explain the fill
It´s always good to remember how to play the different endings
There´s a repetition bar at begginig and at the end of this line
In the first time we´ll play the first ending, come back to the be first measure
And in the second repetition play the second ending instead of the first
Easy, right?
This fill is simple.
A drag, snare and tons
The whole measure
After the first Chorus we´ll play the A part again
The groove and the structure are the same as the fill at the end too
The second Chorus is very similar to the first one, just remember the notes in brackets that are played in others points now
The second end is the same but instead of the fill there´s is a quarter rest
Let´s see it
After the second Chorus there´s a voice riff and the same fill of A part
Then the Solo
The first system of the solo is quite similar to the Chorus, the same groove and snare variation
And on the second system some hits on the tons
I´ll play the first system of the solo
Now the second system
I´ll play the tempo on the hi hat to help understanding the fills
This part is quite simple
We´ll play 1, "and", rest on two
Play again on 3, "and", rest on four
And on the second time we´ll play a snare with the crash cymbal on "and" of the fourth time
Right on the middle of fourth time
There are no drums right after the solo
We´ll rest for three measures and come back at the end of the fourth, with a little fill
We´ll play tons in "and" of three, four, "and"
Easy. Again
Let´s see the last Chorus
Always paying attention to the snare variation
In the second ending there´s a "crescendo" played on snare and floor tom
Pay attention with the beat here to avoid losing the tempo
Do the same in the next part, my students usually have some troubles here
In this final part be sure to count the measures; we´ll play six measures, repeat and finalize the song with a fill
The groove goes this way
Ok? Easy to play, right?
So this was the whole lesson for Boulevard of Broken Dreams
Sorry for the final part of the video that was a little bit darker cause the lights didn´t work
And I´m very happy with this. Not
Anyway, hope this lesson can help you to play the song
I would like to invite you again to subscribe in my channel here on Youtube and in my facebook fan Page, just look for Vitor Lambert.
