My name's Kurt Jensen, I'm a freelance photojournalist in Eugene, Oregon. And I'm going to talk about
what is most fun about this job to me. And probably what's most fun about it is one,
you never know what's going to happen and you go to a scene and it's unfolding as time
goes on and you're part of history. Sometimes it's something very small and sometimes it
can be a pretty big events. One of my most fun events, I would say, and to you know,
a lot of people it's probably not fun, but would have been the WTO protests in Seattle,
where twenty to thirty thousand people who felt like their lives were going to be changed
in very profound ways, because of the policies of this unelected body of officials, you know,
participated in the democratic process by protesting what has turned out to be a very
disastrous policies. And they did it in, for the most part, very non violent ways. And
to be a part of a crowd that is so compassionate about issues that affect not just them but
everybody in the world, and to be a part of a movement that is unfolding in ways that
just cannot be imagined, is just so powerful that it's just, it's hard to describe. You
know, you get to go to events that are just a lot of fun, whether it's bicycle races or
car races. I got to go up with the Golden Knights which is the Army's paratrooper team
and I didn't get to jump with them but I go to fly up with them and ride back down with
them. And you just get sent on a lot of really fun assignments. And these days since I work
mostly as a freelance photographer, I get to pick the assignments that I like to, that
I like to cover, so I can just, if there's a subject that I like, I could just go cover
it and one of the most recent ones was Eugene's new roller derby team. And it's just a lot
of fun to get out and meet the people that are involved and doing fun things in the community
and get to know them and then get to participate in whatever it is that they're doing because
in order to get you know, the good photographs you gotta be right in there with them. And
so to me that's a lot of fun.
