((Host, EMILY FRANCES)) Hello, Everyone. This is Emily Frances. Welcome
to How to Mom TV. We all know Elizabeth Rohm as the no nonsense assistant DA on the hit
show Law and Order. But in real life, Elisabeth is a devoted mom
who took a break from her acting career to be a full time mom to daughter Easton. And
now she confesses she was very close to never having a baby on her own.
Elisabeth shares her difficult journey toward motherhood in her no holds barred, heartfelt,
and relatable memoir “Baby Steps.” Elizabeth was heartbroken to find our that during her
prime at 34, she was diagnosed as being infertile. And if it werent for an immediate IVF treatment,
she may never have had a baby on her own. And she says the most shocking part of all
is that no one is talking about the realities of our ticking biological clocks.
((ELISABETH ROHM, ACTRESS))
I got Law and Order at 27. Youre thinking Im being conscious human being because my
mom started so young. Maybe Im gonna be a deeper, wiser, more grounded mother without
worrying about money issues. Since you dont think youre running out of time since no one
is talking about it, you enjoy your life, enjoy your accomplishments, career stuff and
dating. You also think have right to marry who you truly love and not marry the first
boy shows up. Youre adding more time with different relationships. You give up another
year and another year because each relationship takes a couple of years to explore. Now youre
32 for sure, and that’s the tipping point.
((Host, EMILY FRANCES)) So instead of keeping her struggles private
like some other celebrities, Elisabeth feels its her duty as a woman and a public figure
to be a voice for the Fertility Generation. And when her short blog on People dot Com
became number 1 on yahoo, she knew it was time to write a book.
((ELISABETH ROHM, ACTRESS)) If you wanna be a mom, there is this higher
consciousness, this knowledge which some people know and are not sharing, which is the Sin
of Ommission. Were not helping others by keeping secrets. Information is power. If you can
inform others and help them to avoid pain and educate themselves and have a happier,
better life because of what were sharing with them, then were doing Dharmic work. And thats
what I hope is our purpose in being here.
((Host, EMILY FRANCES)) So what is Elisabeth’s take home message?
If youre a young woman, its ok to start a career and not be in a rush to have babies.
But she says “ladies” if youre between 25 and 30, you owe it to yourselves to at
least start getting annual blood tests of your hormone levels, FSH and Ovarian Reserve.
Its an insurance policy for your future babies. Thank you so much for watching How to Mom
