Hi. Ujiie here.
It's officially out! The Waldorf Pulse 2!
This thing
is an analog synth!
The guts are all analog.
Waldorf has put it in a package this small,
and named it the Pulse 2.
By the way...
in the back here I have a 1st generation Pulse!
We already made a demo video of that one.
The first generation one.
Call it the One.
Well, it's back! This time as the Two.
It's really something else!
It's a smorgasbord of awesome sounds!
Sounds which I'll demo for you in this video.
First up, P-001.
A lead.
Flamboyant!
Great!
This one has formant written all over it!
Sounds good, doesn't it?
Next up...
And the arpeggiator is excellent too!
The Pulse One had one too.
You can really get into analog sounds like this.
Great!
Bass like this?
Only with analog!
What a filter on this thing!
As you can see by looking at it, the panel
is laid out in a matrix. The LED indicates the active row.
You use the knobs to edit those parameters.
Let's edit the filter. Choose the VCF row.
The first *** controls the cutoff.
What. A. Filter!
Right? Resonance.
Turn it down first.
Hmm, the release is rather long. Let's shorten it.
Access that via the amp envelope.
Here we go. Turn it down.
There we go.
Back to resonance.
Yeah, that's great!
And if you decide you like it,
hold this button and press store,
and it's stored in memory.
Very nice.
This bass has some noise mixed in.
It does sound good!
Good.
Ah yeah, lead with distortion!
Nice.
This one has a gimmick.
Played normally,
no surprises.
But when you play legato, you get portamento.
And it's single-note triggered.
That sounds so good. Fantastic!
Listen carefully!
The Pulse2, and the one, are monosynths.
Or so you'd think.
Whaaat? It's playing polyphonically!
What a nice sound!
This too. You think it's mono, but...
The truth is, this thing has a secret!
Let's uncover it. We've got oscillators here, ok?
1, 2, 3. Three oscillators.
The Pulse One is also a three-oscillator synth.
Same deal here on the Pulse 2, BUT!!!
Check this out.
Right here, the Pulse...
uh, over here on the matrix where it's labelled Shape.
The display says Unison APW-P
here on the screen.
I'm gonna change it.
There are lots of options, uh, Unison Mono for example.
This is mono.
Let's set it to Unison P, P for Poly.
Right? Ok so next let's set it, uh,
Unison APW mono.
APW works somthing like having a sub
oscillator one octave down, that kind of thing.
It fattens the sound up a bit.
It's still in mono mode now.
Ok so netx let's set it to Unison APW Poly.
Which gives you a polyphonic sound.
Ok and when it's in poly mode, of course...
you can still apply unison detune to the sound.
Right?
That's awesome! That can be a weapon, easily!
Wow!
It can be a poly synth.
Analog! It's an analog synth!
Amazing. It can work as an analog poly synth.
Awesome!
Arpeggiator. The arpeggiator is accessible here on the matrix.
Pull that up and you can see what's going on there.
It comes with some preset patterns.
Tweak it while it's playing.
That's SUPER fun!
Great!
Yeah, a bass phrase.
That's really.. What?
Reminds me of a certain German "techno" band.
That's nice!
That's kinda...
funky, shuffly?
Nice!
Ah here we go with effects sounds.
Noise is really used well there.
Nice.
Lots of useful sounds here!
Ohh that's a nice one!
Hmmm, let's lower the cutoff a bit.
Yeah, that's just the kind of sound I really like.
That's some nice bass right there.
This is a kick sound.
I'm using this right now, this here,
a reverb & delay effector, TC,
TC Electronics.
Maybe turn it off for this kick sound.
Nice. Simmons!
Now THAT is an analog sound.
This one's called Snare Roll.
Nice.
Autobahn sound effect.
THAT band again…
Oh I've turned the effector back on.
This one's a kind of polyphonic piano sound.
Ah, this one.
It's an organ sound, but it's got distortion.
Why is there distortion? Here in the VCA section,
we have Drive and Drive Curve parameters.
Right now it's set to Fuzz.
There's also a Tube setting.
Turn it off.
You can use that as an effect, Fuzz Drive.
That distortion is nice!
A bit percussive, this one.
You can use it as a poly synth.
This one is pretty extreme!
Lots of different sounds in here. The matrix is really easy to use too.
They've done a really good job with this.
One more thing I want to show you.
Something neat. Actually,
both the Pulse and the Pulse 2
are compatible with each other!
The new Pulse 2 here,
and the original Pulse,
compatible?! Cool!
Just how are they compatible?
You can take the sounds of the Pulse,
and slap them into the Pulse 2!
Let's have a go at that shall we?
How do you do it?
I've got a midi cable connected here,
so I can control it via the Keylab 61.
Let's hook up the Pulse for a bit ok?
Connect it to the midi in. You'll hear the Pulse now.
This sounds good too.
Ok, let's take this...
This sound here, number 81.
Let's put that in the Pulse 2.
Ok? Let's try that.
Find an open slot.
Ok, number 481.
What to do next?
We have to connect the output of the Pulse,
uh, the midi out,
this cable is already connected there.
Ok from the midi out on the Pulse, we go to
the midi in on the Pulse 2.
Here, listen again.
This is number 81 on the Pulse.
I'm going to send that sound to the Pulse 2.
From the Pulse one to the Pulse 2,
I've connected the midi out to the midi in.
Press shift and plus and enter the dump mode.
Shift, plus = dump.
Ok, press that, see it's flashing now.
I'll press it again, and the display here on the 2
and Bam! See it? Pulse 81.
Instantaneous. As soon as I press the button, it's done.
Right, so next,
disconnect the midi cable.
And plug the midi cable
from the Keylab to the midi in on the Pulse 2.
So we can play it via midi.
Ok, you'll hear the Pulse 2 next.
Same sound, right? Well, this one is going through the effector.
Sound number 81 from the Pulse
is here, properly named and all!
Store that one.
Perfect!
So if you know someone who has a Pulse,
you can put those sounds in the 2, no problem!
They've done a great job here!
Waldorf, what a company!
They thought about the original Pulse,
and went so far as to give the Pulse 2
compatibility with it. This to me is
just great! Fantastic!
Yeah this is a synth that all of you
really need to check out for yourselves!
It's reasonably priced.
And compact!
SO easy to use!
It's really great!
I really think so.
Highly recommended!
