My passions
I'll summarize, and talk about my passions,
and of course the first, and it is genuine, because if
I suggest this, and every day I reaffirm it
love is my first passion. Fraternity.
Fighting for others. Not thinking about yourself all the time.
Not allowing yourself to be dominated by individualism. Always thinking about others.
Not turning your back on those who suffer, if you can, put out your hand, be with them.
This is a passion. It's an intimate thing, basic.
The capacity to cry when there is injustice.
When something makes you hurt, that, that's the first thing.
Second is family, we've already talked about that.
That's another passion. And the third is baseball,
which I also like a lot.
I like to read, I like to listen to music and other things, but
baseball is my favorite. It's a passion because I've played since I was a child, and my team has always
been the Cardenals from Saint Louis.
For a long time, and now more than ever, the reason was because
they have two pitchers from Mexico. A really good left-handed Mexican pitcher,
and we don't know what's going to happen now, because we're talking about
the game which happens today, the sixth game of the World Series between the Cardenals and Texas.
And...my team is the Cardinals, and I hope they win today, and tomorrow
will decide who the champion will be. For example,
on Mondays and Tuesdays that I'm here, I go to the field and practice
We have a league for veteran players. Well, we're not veterans...
we're men with, let's say, more experience.
It's a league for people 50 years and older. I play there,
I play on first base. When I was young I played center field,
but I hurt my arm so now I can't throw hard, and then I went down to third base,
but now it's more comfortable to play on first base.
We have three seasons as champions, and I've been batting in all three
ending in this season.
More than 300, and those that know about baseball know that this is no small feat.
In the last game, I struck out.
They always strike you out, these pitchers
because they don't want you to bat to them, and so they strike you out and
for me striking out has a different meaning....you know?
It's more satisfying for the pitcher. And the thing about baseball is it helps
you relieve stress, you know? Or because I'm neglecting, I'm
for an hour, an hour and a half, two, a game can last
sometimes two and a half hours or maybe three. And this, gives me some clarity,
cleanses me, and that when I don't want to disconnect from everything, or so I think.
You're batting, you take the bat, you can see someone's face and...
The Saint Louis Cardenals later
defeated the Texas Rangers
and took the World Series Title.
