Hi! I'm Ed Dowling from eddowling.com. I'm here to tell you about tuning the dobro or
a regular guitar in open A on behalf of Expert Village. This is my dobro. It's quite a few
years old. I think it was imported. I had to raise the strings myself. I'm going to
spend a little time in open A because it's my favorite slide guitar tuning. It has a
beautiful bottom. It has all 4 notes of the major chord A. It's arrived at by taking a
regular guitar tuning that is fretted in A. That would be the 2nd, 3rd, 4th strings up
2 frets while you take a regular guitar and wind them up you're going to be in open A,
and those notes are E, A, E,
C sharp. Excuse me, I'm sorry. They're E, A, E, A, C sharp, E. You'll notice there are
3 E's, the 6th string, the 3rd string, and the 1st string are all E. The 4th string and
3rd string are both A's. This is a really good slide guitar tuning. As you can see,
you can play beautiful melodies to open strings. Open A tuning. If you play the dobro or slide
guitar, try it. Again, we're going to be at E, A, E, A, C sharp, and E. It's my favorite
dobro tuning and slide guitar tuning.
