Supporters of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump immediately cited the suspected terror attack in Munich Friday as the evidence behind his tough stances.
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and other Trump backers took to Twitter even as police in the Southern German city were searching for as many as three shooters who killed at least six people at a mall. Trump called for a halt to all immigration from “countries compromised by terrorism” in his speech at the Republican National Convention Thursday night.

“Will elite media attack on Trump's speech as "dark" change after Munich attack which fits Trump's warnings?” Gingrich tweeted. “Trump right. Elite media wrong.”
Gingrich and other online commenters also pointed to comments by President Obama Friday morning panning Trump’s remarks.
“America is much less violent than it was 20, 30 years ago,” Obama said. “This idea that America is somehow on the verge of collapse, this vision of violence and chaos everywhere, doesn't really jibe with the experience of most people.”
Trump did not mention his speech or Obama's comments when he released a statement about the attack Friday afternoon.
"Our prayers are with all those affected by the horrible attacks in Munich," Trump said. "This cannot continue. The rise of terrorism threatens the way of life for all civilized people, and we must do everything in our power to keep it from our shores."
How does President Obama square his comments today about sun shining and birds singing and no one should be afraid with the Munich attack.

Munich. Trump is right again. His speech wasn't "dark." It was the truth. It's Obama and Hillary's results that are dark.
