This week the regional parliament of Crimea elected a local prime minister to govern until
a scheduled May 25th Crimean referendum to determine the future and potential independence
of the autonomous republic of Crimea. The new prime minister has the allegiance of the
recently appointed and fired head of the Ukrainian Navy, who is now being charged with treason.
Stated directly, a government in power because they violently overthrew their Constitutionally
elected president is declaring an admiral that doesn't submit to their questionable
authority a traitor. This is a situation that the United States is no party to.
We should refrain from entering into this civil war. Attacking Russia for taking a side,
even just economically or financially, will not make us safer nor the region more stable.
Our safety and the lives of our sons and daughters are contingent on our response to these events:
we must no insert ourselves in.
