Assalamu alaykum wa Rahmatullah Quran Weekly,
This is Abdul Nasir Jangda coming to you once again with the Stories of the Prophets. Today
we are going to be talking about Isa (A), the Prophet Jesus (peace and blessing be upon him).
The story of Isa (A) is a very captivating, powerful story from the Quran. He is mentioned
numerous places in the Quran and a lot of the places where Isa (A) is mentioned, his
mother Maryam, his mother Mary, is also mentioned. So that's kind of where I am going to be starting
off at. I am going to be talking to you all about a few ayahs from surah Maryam, surah
number 19, a very beautiful surah. I am going to start off where it is telling us about
Maryam, the mother Isa (A) when she was expecting Isa (A) and she was pregnant with him.
Once she has given birth to him and she comes back home carrying this infant child. Now think
about this, a single young woman coming back home after being gone for a little while holding a baby.
(Faatat bihi qawmaha tahmiluhuqaloo ya maryamu laqad ji/ti shay-an fariyya)
And immediately the people were like, "What did you do? How did you do something so terrible?"
(Ya okhta haroona ma kanaabooki imraa saw- in wama kanat ommuki baghiyya)
Your dad wasn't a bad person. Your mom wasn't
a promiscuous woman? How could you go and do something like this?
Now Maryam, this is a woman of great dignity, honor, integrity, and faith. Allah (SWT) had
told her don't respond. Don't respond. Why or what will happen? What can you do in that
situation? Allah (SWT) lets her know, We will take care of it. And the next thing you know
is that this infant, this baby that she is holding in her arms, he speaks up miraculously.
Just imagine that a baby that is at most a couple of days old speaks and what does he
say? Allah (SWT) tells us in the Quran.
(Qala innee AAabdu Allahi)
(Qala)
He said,
(Innee AAabdu Allahi)
Most definitely without a doubt I am the slave of Allah (SWT). I am the slave of Allah (SWT).
(Ataniyaalkitaba)
He has given me the book.
(WajaAAalanee nabiyya)
And He has made me a Prophet.
(WajaAAalanee mubarakan aynamakuntu)
And He has made me blessed wherever I may be.
(Waawsanee bissalati wazzakatima dumtu hayya)
And He has firmly commanded me to stick to prayer and charity or purification for as
long as I am alive.
(Wabarran biwalidatee)
And He has made me someone who is very respectful towards my mother.
(Walam yajAAalneejabbaran shaqiyya) And He hasn't made me someone who is very
harsh and He hasn't me sinful. He hasn't disobedient or harsh but He has commanded me and told
me and made me the type of person who is very respectful towards my mother.
(Wassalamu AAalayya yawmawulidtu wayawma amootu wayawma obAAathu hayya)
And that peace and blessings will be upon me
as long as I am alive, the day I have passed away, and the day that I will be resurrected
and brought back to life.
So this was the statement of Isa (A) as a baby, as a child. The lesson I wanted to take and
extract from here is the pride that we are supposed to have, yes pride. That usually
shocks people because pride and arrogance are usually a bad thing expect for the fact
that we are supposed to be proud and we are supposed to embrace being slaves of Allah
(SWT). Allah (SWT) tells us in the Qur'an that the Prophet Isa (A), he did not find
it beneath himself to declare himself a slave of Allah (SWT). And the very close beloved
angels of Allah (SWT) do not find it beneath themselves to be slaves of Allah (SWT). We
need to embrace being the slaves of Allah (SWT) and there is great honor and dignity
in it.
While this is not my primary point here today in this video, one very powerful thing that
Allah (SWT) tells us ahead in surah Maryam,
(Thalika AAeesa ibnu maryama)
That was Isa (A), the son of Maryam (A).
(Qawla alhaqqi allathee feehi yamtaroon)
This is the true word right here that many
people later on came and created doubts about. So when we talk about Isa (A) not being the
son of God, we have to understand that Isa (A), his own statement about himself in fact
the very first words he spoke were,
(Innee AAabdu Allahi)
I am the slave of Allah.
What a powerful unbelievable idea. Today we as grown adults having all the knowledge we
might have and the experience we might have and everything that we have gone through and
been through we still have trouble saying that, "I am the slave of Allah (SWT)." And
here is the amazing, the remarkably blessed man as a baby, a child that is a newborn,
his very first words are, "I am the slave of Allah (SWT)." Although it might not seem
like a very tangible point for people but to me it's a very powerful idea. And I will
tell you honestly a lot of young people struggle with a lot of different things like crisis
of faith, and they have a lot of different questions. I might be too simple minded about
this but I always felt that the second we embrace the fact that we are the slaves and
Allah (SWT) is the Rabb, He is the Owner and we are the Property, when you can come to
terms with that, when you can realize that, when that settles in, everything else makes sense.
Everything else is easier to deal with. As the take home message, as the lesson from
this video, sitting right here right now, say it, "I am the slave of Allah (SWT)."
I will try to devote and dedicate my life to Allah (SWT).
May Allah (SWT) allow us all to live a life of dedication and devotion to Allah (SWT)
like the great Prophet and Messenger of Allah (SWT), Isa (A) bin Maryam, Isa (A) the son
of Maryam, the Prophet Jesus (A).
Until next time Quran Weekly, Assalamu alaykum wa Rahmatullah
