Nike is one of those companies that seems really intimidating at first, just
'cause its so, um...it's very competitive to get into. I'm a Marketing major here, uh...
minor in Sports Management. I really wanna get involved in the athletic and sports world.
There were small groups with uh...Gonzaga alums that gave us the tours, and
it was pretty personal.
What I teach
students to try to give them a little bit of my own career advice, is
stay connected to people. Just kind of be open to new things, be open to new people,
and always try and
keep that perspective that everything - everything that you do in a day, you're gonna learn from. And to not feel
confined to what they preliminarily might have thought, what
parents or relatives or other people might have thought, or might be doing or what they might think is safe. And
just remain as open-minded as possible to
that pursuit.
It was really interesting to see how uh...one vision from
two different guys can
really come together to make such a global, uh...enterprise.
It - it - it kind of makes you start to
realize, "Wow, it's massive out there, there are
so many careers out there.
The harder part is gonna be where you're gonna focus your efforts, and really try and be effective out there.
These 18, 19, 20 year-old students are the
future leaders of these companies, and
it's my job to figure out
what are they thinking
so I can tap into that.
One day maybe they'll come work for me.
But if not,
I'll be able to take away a few of
those key insights, to apply them to the leadership program that I have here at Nike today.
It's a very valuable experience...I'm
very glad I did it. I'm so glad I went on the Trek. For sure, it was...
an incredible experience
