Mrs. Right honourable Parlament's president, Mr. Right honourable Generalitat's president,
Honourable major, Barça's president, MPs, friends, father and mother.
Mònica (Terribas), thank you, you are the proof that this country has a lot of talent, don't know where you are, oh.
Evarist (Murtra), with this Liceu's Tenor voice (he was hoarse), you did great. I thank you so much the effort that you've done, I've asked you personally.
I'm very pleased that you did this effort for me, I know it's not easy.
Thanks Nina, for singing this beautiful song of Miquel (Martí y Pol).
I wondered yesterday if this was imposing, this place that represents so much, the most important institution of this country
and believe me, it imposes so much. I'll tell you some things. If praise makes you weak... Guys, I'm worn out.
With all the things they've said, I'm done. But sincerely, I'll talk you the way I feel it.
I was chosen. I was the chosen one. Any other could have been chosen to become the manager of FC Barcelona but they chose me.
Give the ones who chose me credit. David told me, he spoke before in off, he is dear friend of mine.
The day that president Laporta and his people believed that I could be the FC Barcelona manager he phoned me and said: Believe me that the only merit you've got is being chosen.
And I thought that it was a good way to face my job. The best.
Because then, they told me: Yes, look, you have won what you have won and so on...
And I say, yes, we can't complain, it went all fine, but in the end I know what to do to transmit this to my players, my knowdledge... but in the end, I have also learnt them, so they don't belong to me.
They belong to all the managers I have had. All of them, some more, other less, naturally, but every single one of them contributed with something.
I've learnt from all the teammates I played with, and also from the players that now I'm lucky to train.
I've learnt from all of them. And all of this belongs to me. I live my job this way.
I only have a thing that I impute to myself. I love my job. I have passion for my work. Believe me. I love it.
I love it when I played it, when I train, when I speak about it, when I'm with people discussing about this and that.
In the end everything is reduced to instants in every job, everything ends in an instant.
The jobs we've got always have an instant that fully satisfies us. Which we really enjoy. I want to share mine with you.
I'd like everyone to know. Before every match we play, one or two days before I go to the basement. Barça's basement, no exterior light there.
there is a small office, that I set up. I put a carpet, a light that it's not so bad.
And i shut myself in there. About one hour and a half, two hours. I go there with 2/3 dvds.
Carles, Dome and Jordi who are the people that help me, like many others in this adventure.
They give me some dvds about the next opponent team that we have to face.
I have a seat, grab a pen, a sheet; I play the DVD. And I start watching the rival we'll have to play against in one, two, three days.
And I start taking notes... hey, their left wing... the right central defender plays better than the left one, the right wing is faster than the left one, this one plays all the long passes, and so on...
those ones climb the mountine from this side, those others from the other side. And I write all the good things the rival does. And at the same time I write down their weaknesses.
And i think, we can make damage to them in this side, or better if Messi plays here or there, or this one...
But there's amoment, bloody great I'd say, terrific, that gives meaning to this profession. Believe me, I only train for this moment.
This instant. Everything else it's a plus that one obviously has to face, I guess that Genaralitat's president enjoys certain moments, but in others he needs to make protocol. Sure.
So there is this moment of maximum satisfaction when you realize it. Sometimes it lasts a minute twenty, sometimes one an a half, other times just one. Sometimes I only need to watch two rival's matches.
But an instant comes that makes you say: We've got it. We'll win. I don't know why. There is a image, some things that makes you realize that tomorrow we'll win.
Don't think I've got the magic formula, no, because I always think the same and there are days that we lose. So, it would destroy this theory.
But I tell you that due to the passion I feel in my job, That I guess that it is the same that all of you feel in your jobs:
Doctors, bakers, nurses, teachers, bricklayers as my father used to be. any person... there is an instant in their jobs and I vindicate this instant.
I vindicate the love to the job. I love my job for this moment. Then I'll make sure to pass it to my boys. I tell them, guys, we have to make it this way, sometimes works out, sometimes not.
But this moment makes sense of my job. Then you'll tell me: Is it enough? Is it too little? It's mine. It's whatbelongs to me.
It's this passion that I don't know where I've got it from. Because my father, the roundest thing he made was a washing mashine.
My grandpa, my father's side, I didn't meet him, because he died before I was born, and my other grandpa had enought having to live the post-war times, hidding not to be caught.
So, I haven't inherite this gen from my family. Don't know where it comes from. But I have this passion. And it's the same than when I was a child.
And this arrived to my village. This magic instant, This story that comes from the inside, is what makes my job meaningful. Not the rest, it doesn't.
And you'd wonder where have I taken it from. I'va told you, I don't know, But it helped me a lot and here I would like to vindicate how wonderful football is. Not only football, sport.
My parents educated me. Pretty well, I'd say. School helped me, of course. But what educated me: the microsystem that a football team is. A group of people all together.
To me, this is what gave me everything that I am now as a person, it formed me. Making sport brought this to me.
There I learnt what winning means. And to celebrate it in a lot of moderation. And it taught me what a defeat is, and how hurtfull is. But losing makes you learn to stand up and value how difficult it is to win.
I've learnt that a manager decides that I am not playing today. Because I've learnt that he thinks for all of us and not only for myself.
I've learnt that a mate is better than me and deserves to play. And I've learnt that reprouches and lames are absolutely useless. That when you lose it's your responsability.
When things don't make out it's your responsability. The sport, since very young, in Barça, that was the essence, where I've been longer, is all what gave me and formed me as a person and everything I am today.
I could be all the time talking about Barça, so I'll do only a small reference, because I'm always talking about Barça in press conferences.
Today I just want to quote Valero Rivera. Wonderful handball trainer, that one day in the stadium told me: "Barça improves us all".
I told him: "Are you sure?" "No doubt. Live your job thanking it and this institution and never ask anything from it. Don't forget it: Barça improves us all".
It's another thing that goes with me and everyday I'm there with my players and all the people, I alway revindicate the fact that how privileged we are.
I finish. As Monica (Terribas) said, at the age of 23 they made me a round for life. And at 40, they give me the golden medal of this country's most important institution.
I think it's a bit precoucious. But you know that I'm here in part because we have obviously done very well, we've won a lot, and this helps in order to get this medal.
But believe me, If we hadn't won anything, I'd be just as proud of how our people is there, with myself, we did a great effort to make things work and so that people could be proud of us.
Let me say one thing: I don't want to be an example of anyone. I was born in a very small village, near the comarca's capital of Bages (Manresa), and as you know it's called Santpedor.
I don't want to be an example of anyone, I just want to do my job, the job that I love, the best possible way.
I try, with all I do, to make people see me with this passion that they can see in my look, voice, arm's gesticulation. I just hope people to see this passion and feel the way I feel.
I am only, or trying to be, a good friend of my friends, who I'll probably reencounter with when I'll leave this obsession of work, that made me lose some of them due to this unhelthy obsession.
I just try to be a good son, and moreover, I try to be a good partner of my partner and that can together enjoy this wonderful spectacle that is to see how Maria, Màrius and Valentina grow up.
Focusing not in *** them off, allowing them to fall as many times they want because they'll know, or at least, may know that their parents are there to help them.
Right honourable president of Parlament, it is a great honour to get this medal. I don't know how can we give back that much gratitude from my family, I only hope to behave the best I know.
And never forget, that if we wake up really really early, without reprouches or lames, and we start working, we are an unstoppable country. Believe me, we are unstoppable. Thankyou very much, Cheers for Catalonia.
