How to install Fram air filters. Difficulty level: two. Time to complete:
15 to 30 minutes.
To complete this installation, you will need a Fram air filter, a
screwdriver or wrench, and a clean dry cloth or rag.
First, locate the air filter housing. On many cars, it can be found right
on top of the engine. Open the housing by removing any necessary retaining
clips or hardware. This may require simple hand tools, like a screwdriver
or wrench.
Now, remove the old air filter. Clean the housing of any debris by wiping
it with a clean, dry cloth. This will avoid any residual dirt from
immediately contaminating the new filter. Be extra careful to cover any
intake openings to prevent debris from entering the engine. Deeper housings
can be cleaned using air pressure. Compressed air or a bicycle pump will
work just fine.
Install the new filter by inserting it into the housing. Be sure it fits
snugly into place so that air can't pass around the edges. Then, close the
housing cover and refasten any necessary retaining clips or hardware. Make
sure that the housing cover is sealed securely.
The Fram team recommends replacing the air filter of your vehicle every
12,000 miles for optimal engine performance and maintenance.
