we just inaugurated president obama republicans are not wasting any time in
trying to read the twenty six the election what's going on here idon't
know if you've heard about this it's been covered a little bit and says
something street media the r_n_c_ chair uh... rents previous
is encouraging republicans who controlled the government in democratic
leanings states so for example pennsylvania a high a wisconsin michigan
so overhauled their alito role system
and get rid of the winner take all distribution of of electoral votes and
they're proposing one of two systems one system would be you distribute electoral
votes proportionally right so if the democratic candidate wins fifty three
percent of the vote in pennsylvania
fifty three percent of the alito rowboats go to the democratic candidate
big help to republicans
part of the other option which would be and even more significant help the
republicans is you distribute them by congressional district with the two
apple large vote's going to the popular vote
so remember we have gerrymandering which already makes it that a democratic
candidate could win fifty three percent of the vote
but only get
forty five percent
of the congressional districts for example now the funny thing is is that
if every single stated as the democrats ran everytime or if it will that the if
if you turn this into a different situation if we basically went into a
posh actual popular vote situated in fine but what does that work changing
the situation that the popular vote is not determined by gerrymandering but
this is and it's it's popular at least some of these bills in pennsylvania
house bill ninety four is offering up in the second planned i mentioned which
could could lead to
democrat wins fifty three percent of the vote
it's only forty five percent of the electoral vote you win the popular vote
in the state
instead of getting all the popular of the electoral vote instead of getting
fifty three percent of the other provost you get less than half
this is potentially the biggest political story of the next four years
this this note on would be a absolute disaster it would be taking the disaster
that gerrymandering already is
and exploding it
into uh... adj of disaster i don't know how else to describe it
exactly i i think you would have a significant political and possibly uh...
civilian backlash in those states if if it was attempted but
the problem is that we have five justices on the supreme court that have
off upheld political pujari mentoring
so and they say that that's perfectly constitutional so there's nothing
illegal about this
it at least not according to those five if we get a different makeup on the
supreme court you will be in and hopefully it by that point will be able
to eliminate
normal gerrymandering for for a second there luis after the election and
november
it really seemed
like the republican party was going to consider broadening their based changing
their policies to not be so off planning to minorities two women to algae bt
individuals it really seemed like afew key people in the republican party
realize that the way forward does not involve the tea party and it doesn't
involve people like alan west and completely retrograde social policy and
then it looks like they said
that's too much work let's just take what we did with gerrymandering intake
even further so we can win we could potentially winded twenty six the
election
with only forty five percent of the popular vote
i like seeing this effort because we've talked a lot about the decline
of the g_o_p_
and i think this
reinforces our arm observations because this is looks to me like an act of
desperation it certainly is and that inspiration but it's also that it's also
been a second
we could pretend to not
have policies that completely dizzy l_r_ negative for all these groups of people
or we could just stick to what we want to do in being really hateful but just a
creative voting system that will help us right they'd rather cheap and then put
aside their archaic ideals no but that's what that's what this really should be a
absolutely
