THEY ARE STEPPING
UP SECURITY.
TODAY.... LEXINGTON
CENTER LEADERS
DEBUTED NEW,
STAND-UP METAL
DETECTORS AT RUPP
ARENA.
MANY CONCERT
PROMOTERS REQUIRE
THE DETECTORS... AS
PART OF THEIR
CONTRACTS BRINGING
MUSICIANS TO RUPP.
WKYT'S CAITLIN

HOW THE NEW
DETECTORS ARE
WORKING OUT ... IN
OUR TOP STORY AT

Montanna
Minor:"Going out on
our own, without my
parents and stuff, you
feel less secure."
The Lexington Center
debuted its increased
security Saturday night
to concert go-ers.
Montanna Minor /
Morehead:
"It's usually just a purse
check and we go
through the metal
detector thing."
Carl Hall:
"The world is becoming
more frightening in the
sense that there's all
these different
bombings that occur."
As thousands entered
the OUTCRY concert
they were greeted by a
new sight.
Walk-through metal
detectors are all new.
Carl Hall :
" The NBA has become
very active. Major
League Baseball has
become very active.
The NHL has become
very active and the
curve for America is to
get ahead of that."
Now according to
Lexington Center
officials these larger
metal detectors are
actually quicker to get
through than security
personnel using the
handheld metal
detectors.
James Minda / Dayton,
Ohio:
"I mean they've had
these security
measures at the
airports for years now.
They need to have
them at these kind of
facilities where there's
large crowds to protect
people."
This is the new
precedent for most
events at Rupp.
James Minda:
" Rupp Arena sent out
the email to let people
know what to bring in,
what not to bring in."
Cell phones, keys and
purses all put to the
side... a quick walk
through the metal
detector got around
six-thousand inside
before showtime.

Anything we can do
extra even if it takes a
little extra time, I'd
rather be safe than
sorry.
Saturday's event,
officials say is just a
warm-up for Pearl Jam
which will bring in
close to 18-thousand
later in April.
