Hi everyone. This is Mike from OCLC. In this video we will show you how to create your
new WorldShare ILL account if you're a library from outside the United States.
First thing to know about WorldShare ILL is that you will want to register to begin using
WorldShare ILL. So we have Getting Started pages set up for various regions of the world
and this link that I'm about to show you is the Getting Started page for libraries in
Europe.
All these pages will look the same. They will all feature this registration link in this
step one. So this is the registration link that you want to fill out to begin the process
for using WorldShare ILL.
Now only one registration per library is necessary and this registration link, it's not a training
registration. It's a registration to migrate. The WorldShare ILL is the new ILL service.
It's the updated version of OCLC's ILL service and to use it, you're going to need three
new pieces of information: a new username, a new password and something called your custom
Web address.
Every institution will have its own custom web address to access the new service. Now
the way you get all this information is by registering. When you fill out that registration
form, you will get a welcome email that will include your custom Web address and instructions
for setting up your new username and password.
So before we look at the process, please be aware that there are some recommended browsers
with WorldShare ILL. They are Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and versions 8 or 9 of Windows
Internet Explorer.
So let's take a look at that welcome email that I got. So you see this first link that's
in the email. That's my custom Web address from my library. Then some of the additional
links include a link to the video that you're watching now as well as a link to some documentation.
Let's take a quick look at that documentation. So this is the Getting Started document and
on the first page, it features a section on creating your account.
The main thing to know about creating your account is you will need your nine-digit authorization
number and password from the current service FirstSearch WorldCat Resource Sharing to create
the account.
So let's go back to my email. I'm going to click on my custom Web address, load my custom
Web address for WorldShare ILL on my browser and begin the process for creating a new account.
The place where I want to start is the Create New Account link on my custom Web address
page.
Once I get there, once I click on Create New Account, I'm going to want to enter in my
autho and password from FirstSearch WorldCat Resource Sharing. Then it will show me the
name of a library. I want to confirm that this is my library's name and if so, click
Confirm.
Then I want to fill out the form. All these fields are required on the form, so go ahead
and fill out each. Now when I put in my email address, I'm probably going to get a little
notification that I've already set up an account for that email address and that's OK.
Then you're going to choose your own username. Any characters that are not allowed, you can
see them if you hover your mouse over that little lowercase "i". I'm going to enter the
username again and then I'm going to create my own password. Again, any characters that
are not allowed, you can find out by hovering your mouse over that little lowercase "i".
Then I'm going to click Create Account and I will get the confirmation that my account
was created. Now the thing to know about these accounts that you're creating, they are administrative
accounts. An administrative account in WorldShare ILL just has the power to manage and create
other user accounts.
User accounts in WorldShare ILL have all the same access to functionality except that they
cannot create and manage other usernames. Only the admin accounts can do that. So now
I want to go back to my browser. I'm going to close that confirmation window and I'm
just going to simply log in with my new username and password. I'm going to log in to WorldShare
ILL with the username and password I just created.
If it's my first login attempt, I may see a box come up that says, "Select branch for
current location." OK, that's totally normal. Even if your library doesn't have branches,
you just simply want to click on your library's name and then click OK.
This box sets a cookie in your browser so that WorldShare ILL remembers you when you
come back. So if you see your ILL home screen, you've been successful logging in to WorldShare
ILL.
The next thing you want to do is make sure you bookmark your custom Web address. Bookmark
your custom Web address. There's a link at the bottom of the screen that you may use
to do it or you can do a control-D in your browser.
So again, bookmark that custom Web address because that's where you're going to need
to come back. That's where you're going to need to go to come back for ILL.
If you have any questions or comments, you can get in touch with the OCLC customer support
representatives in your region. You can go to this link and look up your region and find
the customer support representatives in your part of the world and they can help you out
with the process. Thanks for watching everyone.
