Manado Tua is a small island located twenty kilometers to the
northwest of Manado
the capital of North Sulawesi Indonesia
Michael Leitzinger and me, Jens Boger
filmed at this location throughout April and May 2013
By interviewing the local people we identified
that the Yaki is an interesting topic for them.
Some villagers report issues regarding raiding of their agriculture crops,
which is a residual problem with many people and primates around the world.
Our aim was to find these free and wild living
Sulawesi crested black macaques,
so we climbed up
to the 800 meter high summit of Manado Tua
accompanied
by Sophie Bader
a german student, working
as a volunteer for a locally based, integrated conservation programme called
Selamatkan Yaki,
meaning
"Save the Sulawesi macaques".
To our delight, after a humid and lonely night on this mystic mountain a group of Yaki
visited us early in the morning.
more information about the problems and needs of this very special endemic
species
will be provided from Harry Hilser
the Field Programme Manager for Selamatkan Yaki based in Manado.
