My name is, I am called Kamya Tarphon from the Putti Community in Uganda
I am the leader of the Putti Community, the Jewish community in Uganda
First and formost I would like to thank Rabbi Riskin
For all the efforts that he made to bring me to Israel
Where I have met many friends that are very important to our community
For instance, I would like to appreciate Mr. and Mrs. Moshe and Aviva Feifer and Moshe
Halpern
For the campaign that they are planning to do to help our community
In Uganda with agricultural improvement
This agricultural improvement in Uganda
We have a problem in agriculture,
We have poor farming methods, long droughts, poor seeds, pests that damage our crops
So at the end of the year, or the end of the harvest, we have poor harvest
Thus we came in contact with Moshe Halpern and Myron
To export Israeli technology to our village
To help our community become more self sustaining in agriculture and education among others
If this campaign is successful, we hope that our children will be able to attend good schools
Have good nutrition, and the elderly and pregnent mothers will have good feeding, good balanced
diet.
So I call upon all well wishers to get involved in this campaign to help our communities in
Uganda
Thank you so much
My name is Johnbosco, from Empire Agriculture Services
which works on the agricultural project in Mbale, Eastern Uganda
Where we are standing we are right in the field
As you can see it is the rainy season at the moment
and the kind of crops that are being grown are being affected by the poor fertility of the soil and the poor nutrition
The soils are so poor that the fertility cannot support the crops and the fertility cannot
retain the moisture during the dry period
So we are planning to implement the irrigation scheme
To provide food for the young blood that you saw earlier (later) on
And we hope that if it is funded, we will improve on the nutrition rates, especially
of the children
and the pregnant mothers, without leaving out the men
Thank you
As we mentioned earlier on, the kind of farming in the country is so poor
and the type of tools used by the farmers is so rudimental
That it can hardly support food production
that is enough for domestic and then commercial
As you can see, one of the farmers is using a hand hoe
He can hardly produce a lot of food, and hardly cultivate a large area of land
So right now the farmer is trying to make holes to plant maize
But we are not sure if the maize will stand the dry season which is yet to come
OK, these are some of the children in one of the villages where we are planning to implement
the irrigation project scheme
As you can see the younger generation is affected by the famine a lot
And one of the people standing in the background is their mother
As you can see, they will need a lot of food, especially during the time of the dry spell
Given that we do not have the graneries to store
It is important to have the irrigation scheme running
As it will be crucial to provide the young children food to eat as they go to school
Once again, I am Birenge Johnbosco
Commonly known as JB
The managing director of Empire Agriculture Services
Right now we have a problem in our villages
Especially in Putti, where we have the Jewish, the Muslims, and the Christians
Despite the differences in the languages, the tribes, and the religions,
We are all faced by the same problem.
That is, "food insecurity"
The kind of crops that we grow,
They are not the kind that can be stored for long
And if we happen to grow the ones that can be stored
Like grains, rice, and maize,
We can hardly harvest enough due to the poverty of the soil
that is, not having enough nutrients
So we are looking to improve on the production in our villages
that is to empower our small holder farmers
Given that most of them do not have enough land
So we are trying to set up a demonstration
So that we can grow some of the crops that can be home grown in gardens
And how a farmenr can harvest water during the rainy season and store it in small tanks
The farmers will be trained to construct such
So they will be in the position to water vegetables, such as cabbages, eggplants, and tomatoes, to mention a few
That we think will help the children to grow up
And feed the pregnant mothers, because they are mainly affected during the dry season
When there is not enough food
We think that if we implemented the irrigation scheme
in our villages, then we will be in a position to support the increasing population
Given that the population is increasing, but food is not increasing
We think that if we implement the irrigation scheme, we will be in a position to at least
reduce the biting effects of food insecurity
in our area.
