Hello everyone this is Regina from B.E.L.I.E.V.E. I decided to take a small break from creating
my costumes, for the Baltimore Caribbean, 2014 parade here in Baltimore Maryland.
I just wanted to tell you a little story about how I grew to love my name.
Growing up I really didn't like my name Regina. Why, because so many of my teachers use to
say hey Reggie, hey Reg and I was like hey I'm a girl I'm not a boy.
So I used to mope around the house, and say don't call Regina, no one calls me Regina.
So everyone in the family started calling me Gina.
So one day my grandmother sat me down and she told me the story of why name was Regina.
She said "I had a dream and that I wanted my first granddaughter's name to be Regina."
I said but why she said do you know what Regina means. I said no it's just a name. I was about
8 years old. She told me that Regina meant Queen and that her first Granddaughter would
always be the Queen for the rest of the daughters that would follow.
So from that moment I really started loving my name. I just felt so honored that my grandmother
held on to this name for so many years just waiting for her special queen.
So knowing my name from the age of 8 helped me focus and set examples to the rest of my
cousins and my younger sisters that we are all queens, and that we should walk and talk
and act always represent ourselves like a queen.
So today this video going out to my grandmother and thanking her so much for holding on to
the name Regina and I am honored and so blessed to carry this name for you and I hope that
I am carrying the name the way that you dreamed of.
So this is just a little bit about me and again why I love my name Regina.
So I have to get back to work to my wonderful costumes and my hot glue. So next time people
I'll see you soon. Bye.
