Hi, welcome to the University of Sunderland.
My name is George, I'm from Norwich and I study here at the Lord David Puttnam
Media Centre and I would like to take a few minutes to show you around and tell you something
about how great it is studying here.
The University is located in Sunderland, the largest City in the Northeast of England and
based on the River Wear close to sea. It's a historical industrial city with great transport
links across the UK and Europe and its people are welcoming and appreciate the importance
of students to the local economy.
The Media Centre is a specially built facility filled with the latest technology and specialist
equipment to enable you to learn the very best skills and techniques for your career.
'We work with closely with National & International media organisations including the BBC, ITN,
Sky, The Royal Television Society and the Radio Academy.
The University has invested millions of pounds in Radio & TV facilities, production offices,
multi-media newsrooms and specialist equipment.
Our radio station 107 Spark FM broadcasts across Sunderland and the World, winning awards
including The Best Student Radio Station on the Planet!
We have one of the widest ranges of industry accredited Journalism and Public Relations
courses in the UK.
We have small class sizes for an intensive learning experience and we offer personal
tutoring from Professors and Senior Academics to all students.
We can offer you a wide range of professional publishing opportunities from our weekly page
in the City's newspaper the Sunderland Echo to our own magazines Degrees North & Spark
Magazine, and websites covering sport, fashion, arts, entertainment & news.
Our research staff have International reputations for their work including Professor John Storey,
Professor Shaun Moores and Professor Clarissa Smith.
All of our Film, Media & Cultural Studies staff are research active and have published
many books and Internationally recognized texts.
Much of our research has ben ranked as World Leading or Internationally Excellent, making
ours the most highly rated Film, Media and Culture team in the North of England.
