My name's Giles Wilson from Ericsson
and I'm speaking from IBC 2013 in Amsterdam,
I like to speak a little bit about ultra high-definition
TV - you may have heard of it as
4k. Basically TV that's of a
higher resolution than current HD formats,
but actually more than that: it is about higher resolutions, four times the
resolution of
modern HD, but it's also higher frame rates and higher
color depths, but I think the key point is that it's a fundamentally
more immersive and better TV viewing experience
than current high-definition. It really takes you away from
looking at a picture inside a frame
to having a window on the world and being part of the content on the screen is a
very compelling
user experience. So at the show, what we're
focusing on really is the acquisition of live content.
We see sports as being the killer application for 4K TV
and ultra-high def, and we're showing true
ultra high-definition live capture from sporting events
using MPEG-4, quad HD,
progressive 60 frames a second, and actually we've been working with
Sony, BT, and Intelsat at the show and actually transmitting a live
rugby match from the UK to the show which
has being absolutely fantastic.
