Hello ladies and gentlemen, my name is Mikey Krajnak.
I am the American Sign Language coach for the A.R.T.,
the American Repertory Theater here in Cambridge Massachusetts.
I'd like to share with you some exciting news:
We have a show "Marie Antoinette"
written by David Adjmi.
The important parts of the play that I'd like to share with you
are a little bit about Marie Antoinette.
Marie is a historical figure as most of you know.
Back in 1789 during the French Revolution, she was the Queen of France,
During that revolution --
as you know today, the 99%, things have been happening
with the Occupy [Movement] in the United States --
a similar parallel happened during that revolution and she was part of that "1%".
The "ninety-nine-percenters" got quite angry and kidnapped Marie.
She was jailed, she became quite disparaged and sadly she was beheaded.
The play is written more for today's time:
more irony, more cynicism, some dark humor, some really fun language.
And after reading the script and hearing from the community
I realize that this is a new approach I'd like to take:
What type of humor is relayed via sign language?
This show -- rather than being interpreted into American Sign Language --
will be transliterated in English.
And what that means is we will be using the English word play to our advantage
and meet the needs of the questions and requests that members have had.
I'm very much looking forward to seeing the reactions from the audience
and to be playing with three-dimensional language.
Come and see "Marie Antoinette"! We'll see you soon!
