My name is Lorenzo.
I'm from Italy.
Right now I'm studying a Bachelor of Interactive Media in AIT.
This is my second time in Australia.
The first time I came here,
I randomly picked a country that would allow me to stay here for a while and work.
And I liked it here, so I was trying to find a way to come back.
My idea was actually to study graphic design,
and maybe this school was offering me a bit more than just graphic design.
So it was more like digital, graphic and 3D and animation... I thought that was quite interesting compared to
other schools I was looking at. Before coming here, I was kind of
working as a pre-press. I started learning how to use the software before coming to AIT, like Photoshop and Illustrator.
But I didn't have a proper education. I was pretty rough about it.
Then I came here and, not just through the classes but also the opportunities I got
through AIT,
right now I work as a graphic designer.
So I've been learning a bit how to
do things in a certain way. More like client projected,
rather than
my ideas and what I think it's good is good. It's more like what the client wants
and what I should do, and how to
make a design a tool for the audience.
When I got here one of the things that I really liked was the environment.
Even if the college was fairly small, is not really big...
Actually it was quite comfortable. And it was pretty easy to talk to everyone, starting from staff
to teachers
and having like a pretty personal relationship with most of the people.
So I felt like in a community more than just in a
university or college. At AIT I got like a quite
wide experience in all the different subjects.
All the different aspects of the creative jobs.
I feel confident
that I have knowledge about
a lot of different things that a lot of people maybe don't because they're focusing too much
in one aspect.
And they don't experience
some other sides of the job. AIT helped me to find that
I don't want to be focus on just one aspect. I don't want to be just a simple graphic designer.
I don't want to get
practical jobs straight after school that's not going to lead me anywhere.
I got the chance to have wider knowledge that I can use
later on to maybe achieve
higher goals and not just like
do my practical job, and it's going to be that for the rest of my life. But I can actually start swapping positions
and I start developing different skills.
